Manchester City have signed Benjamin Mendy from AS Monaco in a deal reportedly worth £49.4 million.
The Monaco left-back’s arrival takes Pep Guardiola’s summer spending past £200m, with defensive acquisitions alone totalling £156million as Mendy joins Real Madrid’s Danilo and Tottenham’s Kyle Walker as back-four recruits, in addition to new goalkeeper Ederson, bought from Benfica.
The 23-year-old was one of the standout players for Monaco as they stormed to the Ligue 1 title last season.
Mendy is renowned for his pace, strength and ability going forward. He enjoys joining the attack and fulfills the criteria Guardiola looks for in his full-backs.
The French left-back is known for his crossing, attempting 57 in the league last season, nine more than any other player.
