Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has handed in a formal transfer request to the club in a bid to force through a move to Chelsea ahead of Thursday’s transfer window deadline.
The 27-year-old was instrumental in the Foxes’ miracle title triumph two seasons ago, anchoring the midfield and repeatedly finding striker Jamie Vardy with pinpoint long-range passes to set off counter-attacks.
Drinkwater was a product of Manchester United’s academy, although he never made a senior appearance for the club. The Manchester-born midfielder was loaned out several times before he joined Leicester on a permanent transfer in 2012, and has been with the Foxes ever since.
The England international made 190 tackles over the 2015/16 and 2016/17 Premier League seasons, more than any other English player across that time period, and between 2014/15 and 2016/17, he completed more passes (3,638) than than any other Blues player.
