Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches has joined Swansea on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich, the German club have announced.

Sanches joined Bayern Munich last summer after rising through the youth ranks at Benfica and playing one senior season for the Portuguese club.

He also impressed for Portugal at Euro 2016, where he was named the best young player of the tournament.

However, the 19-year-old midfielder has struggled at Bayern, failing to force his way into manager Carlo Ancelotti’s first team.

He had nonetheless been linked with several of Europe’s leading clubs this summer, including Chelsea and Juventus, but Swansea have stolen a march on the competition to secure his signature.

Swansea boss Paul Clement spent time as Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant at Bayern last season and used his contacts in Bavaria to pull off the shock move.
