THOMAS MEUNIER

Manchester United are set to make a £30 million move for PSG star Thomas Meunier, according to the Sunday Express.

The Belgian international enjoyed a solid 2016-17 campaign but has struggled for game-time since the arrival of Dani Alves to Parc des Princes during the summer.

The 26-year-old is said to be frustrated with a lack of minutes and feels like a second option under coach Unai Emery.

He has made six Ligue 1 appearances this season, scoring three goals.

RATING: 6/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

Meunier would provide strong competition to Antonio Valencia, but the Ecuadorian is playing out of his skin this season, so it is unlikely he will be replaced at the heart of the Red Devils defence.

If the PSG wantaway decides to depart the French capital he will not be short of potential suitors, with Juventus a strong option, as the Italian giants have failed to replace Alves since he quit Turin last summer.

JAVIER MASCHERANO

Javier Mascherano is set to leave Barcelona at the end of the season, according to Sport.

One of the clubs longest serving players, the 33-year-old has grown accustomed to a reduced role this season and has featured in just five of Barcelona’s ten La Liga matches.

If an MLS deal does come to fruition, it would bring down the curtain on a glittering career at the Camp Nou, which includes four La Liga titles, four Copa del Reys and two Champions League crowns.

RATING: 7/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

The versatile Argentinean, who can play defence or midfield, has been replaced by Samuel Umtiti at centre-back and doesn’t want to finish his career sitting on the bench.

Although his age may be a concern to some MLS clubs, Atlanta United have emerged as a key option, as head coach Tata Martino managed Mascherano between 2013-16.

MICHAEL CARRICK

West Brom, Aston Villa and Leicester are interested in securing the services of Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick in January, according to the Mirror.

Despite being made club captain over the summer, the 36-year-old has only made one Carabao Cup appearance this season.

The highly-respected star, who is set to return from injury this week, is desperate for more game time in the United engine room.

RATING: 7/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

It seems like a frustrating end to life at Old Trafford for Carrick as the arrival of Nemanja Matic has seen the Serbian establish himself as the mainstay of the Red Devils midfield, with Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini also favoured ahead of Carrick.

With three clubs battling it out for his services, perhaps it’s the right time for him to leave.

ALEXIS SANCHEZ

Manchester City will not launch a bid for Alexis Sanchez in January and will instead wait til next summer to try and sign him on a free transfer, according to the Daily Mirror.

City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to reunite with the Chilean international, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Italian giants AC Milan and Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain are among the other clubs interested in securing his services.

RATING: 8/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

An approach from Pep Guardiola’s side would certainly interest the Chilean, and with a salary of around €332,000 per week, it’s a move not to rule out just yet.

Although he has been linked with a move to England’s north-west before, it is likely the deal will go through next summer.

JOSE ARNAIZ

Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona winger Jose Arnaiz, according to Mundo Deportivo .

The 22-year-old made a goalscoring debut during Barcelona’s win over Real Muricia in the Copa Del Rey last week.

He currently has a €20 million release clause, and could be on the move again soon.

RATING: 7/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

If Arsenal or Manchester United attempts to sign the Spaniard, it’ll be a bargain buy at €20 million.

Although Arnaiz is nowhere close to being a senior player, he represents a solid option in attack with Alexis Sanchez and possibly Zlatan Ibrahimovic departing at the end of the season.

PALMIERI

Liverpool are set to make a €25 million offer for Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri in January, according to GazzaMercato .

Jurgen Klopp is believed to be eyeing the 22-year-old as he is desperate to add more solidity to the defence after leaking 16 goals already this season.

The Brazilian was previously a target for Liverpool before suffering a knee injury in May.

RATING: 6/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

The Reds are unhappy with Alberto Moreno’s recent performances and want Palmieri to replace him in the team.

It’s also believed that Klopp will offer Palmieri a five-year deal, showing that the club are ready to put their faith in him for the long-term.

Gomes' stay at the Nou Camp is likely to come to an end.

GOMES TO LEAVE NOU CAMP AS BARCA SEEK FUNDING BOOST

Barcelona are desperately trying to reduce their huge bill and will look to offload the likes of midfielder Andre Gomes, Turkish star Arda Turan and striker Paco Alcacer in the January transfer window, according to Marca.

Blaugrana’s reported budget is around €507million a season, however, the Catalan club have overspent on wages by a sum of €105m – with funds lavished on players’ salaries in the 2017/18 season forecasted to consume 84 per cent of their anticipated annual outlay.

If it wasn’t for the world-record sale of Neymar, the club would have been in the red, the Madrid-based newspaper have reported.

As such, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has work to do in balancing the books – a tricky task given he has had to tie down stars like Andres Iniesta and convince Lionel Messi to put pen-to-paper on a deal that has been in the works since the summer.

The obvious solution is to move on fringe players in Ernesto Valverde’s squad like the aforementioned and rely on the club’s famed La Masia academy to develop the next generation of Camp Nou stars.

RATING: 7/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

In spite of Barcelona’s superb start to the season, changes are likely to happen in the January window and expect a number of players to leave the club.

Portuguese ace Gomez, who signed for the La Liga giants at the beginning of last season, has struggled of late to nail down a first-team place and could be the most high-profile name to leave with Juventus and Manchester United both rumoured to be interested in the 24-year-old’s services.

Barcelona are looking to free-up funds.

RED DEVILS INTERESTED IN REAL ACE

Jose Mourinho is reportedly tracking Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro, with a view to making a move for the midfielder at the end of the season.

According to Diario Gol, the Portuguese boss is an admirer of the Brazilian star and the 25-year-old’s ability to operate in a number of positions.

United are looking for a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick and reports suggest the club are concerned contract talks with Marouane Fellaini have not progressed as quickly as they would have liked.

That could open the door for the Red Devils to move for Casemiro, who has proved the critics wrong at the Bernabeu and established himself as a reliable player in Zinedine Zidane’s team.

RATING: 5/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

The former Porto star is very much part of Real’s plans moving forward and is contracted to the Whites until 2021, but still, a bid from United would certainly unsettle a player who is tailor-made for the lightening quick style of the Premier League.

A transfer in January looks extremely unlikely, though, but expect this story to run and run next summer.

EVERTON TO RECALL STRIKER FROM LOAN

Everton are ready to recall striker Henry Onyekuru in January and end his loan spell at Anderlecht, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

The 20-year-old Nigerian was signed by departed boss Ronald Koeman back in July for £7m from Eupen but immediately sent out on loan to the Belgian side.

However, the Toffees are short of much-needed firepower up top and feel the forward, who has netted six league goals in 11 outings this term, deserves a crack at the first-team sooner than was originally thought.

Interim boss David Unsworth is known for giving youngsters a chance to shine on the biggest stage and Everton have apparently begun talks to terminate his loan stint early.

RATING: 7/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

It’s no secret that the failure to replace Romelu Lukaku properly in the summer played a huge part in Koeman’s demise at Goodison Park, that along with new signing Sandro struggling to adapt to English football and Wayne Rooney’s days as an out-and-out striker behind him – despite the five goals he has netted so far.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse – who has gone from the brink to becoming a key player – are the only other genuine striking options available to the Toffeemen so reinforcements are needed.

Onyekuru is in red-hot form and seems more than ready to take his chance in the Premier League, having also impressed in the Champions League this term.

It is a win-win for the Merseysiders to bring him back into the fold.
