  • Arsene Wenger has revealed he will sign world class players should Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez end up leaving the club.

With an air of uncertainty over the futures of both stars, a lot will depend on their commitment to the club before any significant decisions are made on which attacking players the Gunners will aim to recruit.

Which stars would you like to see sign for Arsenal?

Here, we take a look at three realistic options for Arsene Wenger’s side if Ozil and Sanchez choose to leave the Emirates Stadium.

    RIYAD MAHREZ

The former African Footballer of the Year was an inspirational presence in Leicester’s Premier League triumph in 2016.

But his form and results of the Foxes dipped significantly this season, placing pressure on an otherwise superb talent.

With seven goals and seven assists in 21 games, the question remains whether Arsene Wenger needs to fork out over £40 million to add the Algerian international to his current wealth of talent in midfield.

One drawback of bringing the livewire attacker in would be finding a system that keeps his squad happy and prevents Mesut Ozil – if he stays until the summer – being pushed into an unfavoured wide role.

A key tactic could be for Wenger to convert Mahrez from a winger to a striker role, something he previously did with the likes of club legends Robin van Persie and Thierry Henry.

The 26-year-old clearly has formidable goalscoring ability, but it may need a new club like Arsenal to bring out the best in him again as he had looked lethargic for large spells of this season.

    THOMAS LEMAR

The Gunners had a late £90m bid accepted for the French winger during the summer, but there was no time to get all the formalities done and the move subsequently collapsed.

But with Sanchez likely to leave the club, Lemar would fit the ball as a talisman attacker – playing behind a front three led by Alexandre Lacazette.

Lemar makes sense as a replacement for Sanchez but he is not as prolific as the Chilean in the final third – with just two goals and four assists in 12 matches this term.

The Frenchman’s greatest asset is his crisp passing and tireless work and movement off the ball, which would add another layer to an already lethal Gunners attack.

At 22, his best years are yet to come, which represents another significant boost for Wenger’s side in the long run.

    NABIL FEKIR

Alexandre Lacazette may have been a marquee signing for the Gunners during the summer, but if they want to get the best out of the elusive Frenchman, they should consider his former teammate Nabil Fekir.

The 24-year-old is in sparkling form at the Groupama Stadium this term, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists in 16 Ligue 1 matches.

But with Lyon in the midst of a title battle with PSG and Monaco, it is doubtful the club will want to cash in on their prized asset for less than €50 million – and not til next summer at the earliest.

It should be said that signing Fekir is seen as a long-term move for the North London club as they look to bolster their attacking options for next season.

His skill and workrate makes him a perfect fit to sit behind Lacazette in a 3-4-2-1 formation. It’s normally where Sanchez and Ozil operate, and his pace, consistency and eye for the right option would not look out of place in this position.
