  • Manchester United may be busy trying to push the Alexis Sanchez deal over the line but links with Cristiano Ronaldo have predictably popped up again.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, the Real Madrid star is looking to jump ship as the team have endured a nightmare season in La Liga so far.

As per the report, Ronaldo has voiced his frustration to other members of the squad as he feels club president Florentino Perez has not kept his promises.

The Portuguese was promised a new contract after he led the team to a second consecutive Champions League triumph.

His current deal expires in 2021 and his comments after winning the Club World Cup in December suggested he wasn’t happy with his situation.

“I’d like to retire at Real Madrid but that doesn’t depend on me as I’m not the person in charge at the club”.

Meanwhile, Madrid are hardly under pressure to renew the contract of a player who turns 33 next month. Los Blancos would instead direct funds towards recruiting the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe or Antoine Griezmann.

With Lionel Messi’s new deal at Barcelona making him the world’s best player, Ronaldo believes he deserves to be in the same bracket and United have the means to offer him those wages.
