Newly-appointed Wales manager Ryan Giggs believes Manchester United will be getting a “top, top player” if they are able to seal a deal for Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez has been linked with both United and Manchester City as he enters the final six months of his contract with Arsenal, a state of affairs that has seen a drastically low transfer fee being mooted for one of the Premier League‘s best players. Arsenal are holding out for £35million in this window, after having reportedly rejected a £60million bid from City last summer.
“It doesn’t happen very often where you’re running down your contract, you’ve only got six months to go and you’re able to get a player relatively cheap in this environment,” Giggs said.
City now say they won’t pay more than £20million for Sanchez’s services, leaving United as the frontrunners, as they are willing to meet Arsenal’s valuation, Sanchez’s wage demands – reportedly £400,000 a week – and a sizable agent’s fee. And United legend Giggs is excited at the prospect of Sanchez joining his former club.
“He’s not only a goalscorer, but he makes goals and works hard,” Giggs said. “So whoever gets him will be a lucky team because he is a top, top player.”
