  • Aymeric Laporte is seemingly on the verge of joining Manchester City on Tuesday as manager Pep Guardiola looks to bolster his defensive options in pursuit of the Premier League title.

The French centre-back posted a farewell message to Athletic Bilbao on Monday, thanking the Basque club for their support during his time at the club.

Reports said the 23-year-old was due to travel to Manchester.

Athletic confirmed Laporte’s release clause had been met but did not mention City or any other club in a statement released on their website.

Further reports suggest Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Emerson Palmieri could be London-bound on the penultimate day of the January transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang, who has scored 85 goals since the start of the 2014-15 season, is poised to make a £60million switch to Arsenal, while Roma defender Palmieri is set for Chelsea.

Sky Sport Italia claim, however, that a Blues bid for Roma’s former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has not been successful.

The next move of Daniel Sturridge’s career was made on Monday night as the England striker left Liverpool to represent West Brom until the summer.

Sturridge, 28, had been linked with Sevilla, Inter Milan and Newcastle after falling down the pecking order at Anfield but it understood that his family ties in the Birmingham area may have convinced him to try his luck at the Hawthorns.

Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu has become Javi Gracia’s first signing as Watford manager after arriving at Vicarage Road on loan until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has Premier League experience with Everton, who he represented for two campaigns, and despite only returning to Barca in the summer he has been allowed to depart the Nou Camp once more.

Millwall rolled back the years by re-signing Australia international Tim Cahill, 14 years after he left the Den to join Everton.

He told Millwall’s website: “It’s hard to put into words (what it feels like to wear a Millwall shirt again) – I’m still taking it in now.”

Celtic have signed Chelsea midfielder Charly Musonda on an 18-month contract, with left-back Baba Rahman departing Stamford Bridge for Schalke in a similar arrangement.
