  • Arthur is close to sealing Barcelona move.

Spanish daily Sport is reporting that Gremio midfielder Arthur is due for a medical with Barcelona on Wednesday ahead of a transfer agreement between the two clubs.

Arthur has been a target for several Premier League clubs, most notably Manchester United and Chelsea, but Barcelona have moved quickly to seal the deal for the Brazilian.

The report suggests that Barcelona will pay a £26.5million transfer fee up front, with a further £8.8million in add-ons.

Arthur will only join the La Liga outfit in January 2019, as Gremio want to keep the midfielder for the rest of the Brazilian league season, which ends in December. However, the midfielder wants to a deal to be finalised as soon as possible as he hopes the endorsement of a Barcelona transfer aids his chances in making the Brazil squad for this year’s World Cup.

Barcelona are amenable to Arthur only arriving in January as it allows time for fellow Brazilian Philippe Coutinho to gain EU citizenship, freeing up a non-EU spot for the new arrival.

Arthur will reportedly have a meeting with Barcelona technical director Roberto Fernandez on Wednesday to agree a contract.
