CENGIZ UNDER

The 20-year-old Roma prodigy has revealed he turned down the chance to join Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City last summer, instead choosing to make his way in Serie A.

According to Turkish-based publication Spor Arena, the winger had an offer to sign for the Premier League side but instead opted to move to Roma from Istanbul Basaksehir.

While City are still thought to be interested in his services moving forward, Under revealed regular first-team football with the Italian giants was his main motivation behind his switch to the Stadio Olimpico.

Indeed, Mohamed Salah‘s transfer to Liverpool also left a big attacking void to be filled.

The Turkey international has scored six goals in all competitions this season and is set to feature in the Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona.

CLEMENT LENGLET

Barcelona could consider a summer swoop for the 22-year-old Sevilla centre-back, according to Sport.

Blaugrana want to boost competition in defence and see the Frenchman as a man who fits the mould at Camp Nou.

Lenglet, who likes to bring the ball out of defence, has quickly developed into a key star for the Andalusia side – with the former Nancy ace helping Sevilla to the Champions League quarter-finals.

With Thomas Vermaelen likely to leave Catalonia once this campaign is out and Colombian Yerry Mina still finding his feet in Spain, the centre-back is a viable alternative option.

Old Trafford No.1: David de Gea.

Though the summer transfer window is still a few months away, that hasn’t stopped the rumours of various players potentially being on the move.

Across the world of football, there remains plenty of activity and stories that have football fans talking.

Here, we look at the latest transfer deals that could happen when the market reopens in June.

DAVID DE GEA

The Manchester United shot-stopper is on the brink of penning a new five-year contract at Old Trafford, worth at least £350,000-a-week (Dh1.8m).

According to The Sun, the Red Devils are confident of tying the Spaniard to the club until at least 2024 in a move which would end Real Madrid‘s interest in the former Atletico Madrid man.

Jose Mourinho wants to get the deal done and dusted before the 27-year-old jets off to the World Cup while it has also been speculated the Portuguese boss could leave if United fail to convince De Gea to stay long-term.

A new contract would make the Spain international the Manchester side’s second-highest player, behind January recruit Alexis Sanchez.

De Gea has been a United man since 2011.

MARQUINHOS

Barcelona could launch a summer raid for the Paris Saint-Germain centre-back, should Samuel Umtiti leave the Camp Nou.

Blaugrana have been put on red alert by Umtiti’s claim that he will consider other options at the end of the season, given fresh contracts talks between club and player have stalled.

According to Goal, the Spanish giants have identified the 23-year-old Brazil international as a like-for-like replacement should the Frenchman leave Catalonia.

Umtiti has been the subject of interest from Manchester United while Marquinhos is highly thought of at the Parc des Princes and would be not be allowed to leave on the cheap.

TOBY ALDERWEIRELD

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is resigned to losing the talented Belgian this summer, as Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United lock horns for his signature.

The centre-back, who was sidelined for around three months with a hamstring injury, is now making his way back into the first-team picture but has yet to agree improved contractual terms with the North London club.

The former Southampton man’s deal is up in 2019 and PSG are ready to meet Alderweireld’s £10 million per season (Dh51.6m) annual salary demands.

Spurs have grown used to being without the 29-year-old this term and may see this summer as a chance to cash in on the versatile defender, given his stock will be high – especially if he performs well at the World Cup.

It’s been a frustrating season for Alderweireld.

JAMES RODRIGUEZ

Bayern Munich are ready to splash the cash to sign the Colombian playmaker permanently, according to Marca.

The Bavarians, who signed the 26-year-old on an initial two-year loan deal from Real Madrid last summer, have a purchase option over the talent to sign him at any point during that period for a flat fee of €42m (Dh190m).

Bayern will now exercise that clause this summer, given Rodriguez’s impressive displays for the Bundesliga giants which have seen him orchestrate proceedings from midfield, notching 11 assists in all competitions.

The player himself is happy to make the switch given his Los Blancos future appeared bleak under Zinedine Zidane during the 2016/17 season, despite performing to a high level whenever called upon.

ADRIEN RABIOT

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder could opt to leave the French giants at the end of the season, Goal reports.

There is expected to be much change at the Parc des Princes this summer, with boss Unai Emery under pressure following the club’s last 16 Champions League exit and speculation over the long-term future of the world’s most expensive player, Neymar.

That has also unsettled other stars, including the 22-year-old, who has yet to enter talks over a new contract extension with his existing deal expiring next year.

Manchester United have in the past been linked with the Frenchman, with Rabiot likely to make a call over his next move following the World Cup in Russia.

MOUSSA MAREGA

Everton, West Ham and Swansea will battle it out in a three-way fight to land the Porto forward in June, according to The Mirror.

The 26-year-old Mali international has been in blistering form this season, netting 20 league goals in 24 appearances.

That has led to interest from the Premier League trio, with the Toffees thought to be leading the race to sign him given their extra financial clout.

Marega is said to be be keen to move to England, with the Amiens star having a £35m (Dh180m) release clause in his contract.
