  • What next for Jamie Vardy?

The Premier League transfer window is now open and the market in the rest of Europe will spark into life soon.

With the transfer rumours growing in pace and volume during this ‘silly season’, it can be difficult and painstaking to separate the stories of some legitimacy from the rest of the noise.

Fortunately, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to do it for you.

Below, you’ll find some of the latest transfer news churned out of the rumour mill broken down and analysed for your benefit along with our calculated predictions.

JAMIE VARDY – FROM LEICESTER TO ATLETICO MADRID

Why it will happen: Atletico Madrid are all but resigned to losing Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona this summer, and while that would be a huge blow, Diego Simeone is apparently keen on signing the Foxes star as his replacement. Given he is 31, the Spanish giants could land him for a snip at around £30m and therefore have cash to spare to strengthen in other areas. The future of Claude Puel may impact his decision-making process, with Leicester stars reportedly being unhappy at the former Southampton manager’s reign.

Why it won’t happen: Vardy could hold out for a move to a top-six Premier League side and may too want to stay in England. Up to this point, he has been very loyal to Leicester and there is no reason to suggest why that should change following another impressive season.

Prediction: This could possibly be his last chance to earn a big move and win more silverware, so a deal is likely. However, plenty of legs would be required to get this one over the line in a World Cup summer.

    Rating – 7/10

JACK WILSHERE – FROM ARSENAL TO PARIS-SAINT GERMAIN

Why it will happen: The 26-year-old’s Arsenal contract is up at the end of next month and there has yet to be any indication that the Gunners will offer him fresh terms. Despite his injury record, bringing in a man of Wilshere’s talent on a free transfer could represent decent enough business for the Ligue 1 giants.

Why it won’t happen: With a young family in London, Wilshere – who failed to make it into Gareth Southgate’s England squad – would surely prefer not to upsticks. Indeed, he will no doubt refrain from signing any other contract until he is 100 per cent sure his future doesn’t lie at Arsenal.

Prediction: Given the Reds have yet to name a successor for Arsene Wenger, whoever comes in could take a shining to Wilshere so expect him to try and stay with the Gunners.

    Rating – 4/10

HIRVING LOZANO – FROM PSV TO EVERTON

Why it will happen: Farhad Moshiri’s millions could see the Blues offer the 22-year-old lucrative terms while the input of the club’s new Director of Football, Marcel Brands, might prove to a be decision factor. The Dutchman previously worked at PSV, and as such, has inside knowledge on the player and club.

Why it won’t happen: Should the Mexican enjoy a sparking World Cup, his stock will well and truly rise further. A move away from PSV is virtually improbable, but it looks unlikely a switch to Goodison Park would be at the top of his wishlist. La Liga could seem a more attractive proposition and Valencia, who have Champions League football to offer, have already approached the player.

Prediction: Having scored 17 goals in 29 appearances in a title-winning campaign for PSV, there will be no shortage of teams in the mix to sign Lozano but Merseyside doesn’t look like being his preferred destination.
