NICK POPE

Liverpool are set to solve their goalkeeping woes by clinching a deal for the talented Burnley and England shot-stopper, according to The Sun.

The Reds were rumoured to be closing in on Roma’s Alisson but that move has hit a snag, opening the door for Jurgen Klopp’s men to land the 26-year-old.

Pope, whose dramatic rise to footballing stardom saw him win a place in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad for the World Cup, could be available for as little as £15 million (Dh73.8m).

With Tom Heaton set to return from injury next term, the Clarets could be tempted to cash in on Pope now while his stock is high.

Current men between the sticks; Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, are both set to leave Anfield this summer.

Revelation: Nick Pope.

JACK GREALISH

Tottenham are preparing to raid Aston Villa for the 22-year-old midfielder, Sky Sports are reporting.

The Midlanders failed to secure promotion to the Premier League, falling in the Play-Off final against Fulham at Wembley last month, and are embroiled in a financial crisis.

It is therefore likely star asset Grealish will need to be sold to plug a huge financial black hole, giving Spurs license to conjure up a bid thought to be in the region of £30m (Dh147m).

Leicester City are also thought to be in the running for the Englishman but the lure of Champions League football would give Mauricio Pochettino’s men the edge in any potential one-to-one duel.

Lyon have called off negotiations with Liverpool over Nabil Fekir.

Lyon have called off negotiations for the sale of forward Nabil Fekir to Liverpool, the French club announced on Saturday.

The France international was expected to join Jurgen Klopp’s side before Les Bleus left for the World Cup, but OL have now ended talks and called off the deal.

“Transfer negotiations with Liverpool and Nabil Fekir for the transfer of the captain of OL have not succeeded and Olympique Lyonnais have decided to put an end to this negotiation tonight at 8pm,” OL said in a statement on their official website.

The 24-year-old was being courted by Liverpool as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona in January.

There were doubts as to whether the playmaker would pass a medical with the Premier League side due to a knee injury.

However, that is now irrelevant, with Lyon calling the deal off.

France football Association president Noel Le Graet had suggested the move was almost completed – according to reports in France – before Lyon’s announcement.

The club’s statement continued: “Although Liverpool have been the priority of a possible transfer for Nabil…Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to be able to count on the presence of our captain, who is a leading player for the 2018/19 season when the club will play in the Champions League.”

Nabil Fekir's move to Liverpool is on hold.

Liverpool‘s proposed move for Nabil Fekir has been put on hold over fitness concerns.

The Lyon playmaker suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in 2015 that kept him out of the 2015-16 season, then missed several games last season because of a knee injury.

Fekir underwent a medical on Friday and reportedly had already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with Liverpool before the medical concern cropped up.

Lyon denied that a move for their captain was close to being completed, but it is thought that the two clubs made a breakthrough in talks over a £53million transfer late on Thursday.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has targeted Fekir as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who was sold to Barcelona in January. The signing would be part of an ongoing midfield makeover, with Liverpool having agreed a deal last summer for Naby Keita to join from RB Leipzig in this window and then tying up a deal for Fabinho from Monaco last week.

However, with the 24-year-old set to depart for the World Cup in Russia with the rest of the France squad after their friendly against the United States on Saturday, the transfer could be delayed until after the tournament ends.
