  • Eden Hazard‘s father reportedly approached Real Madrid ahead of the Champions League final to discuss a potential summer transfer.

The Chelsea star has made no secret of his desire to move to the Spanish capital, telling L’Equipe before the World Cup: “Real Madrid can interest me, everyone knows that.”

And days before Los Blancos’s 3-1 triumph over Liverpool, Thierry Hazard told the club they could sign his son, whose contract talks with Chelsea have stalled.

With the Blues missing out on Champions League football next season, the 27-year-old seemingly feels the time is right to move on from the club he joined in 2012.

He’s also concerned over his role at Chelsea after having successive managers in Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte whose preferred style of play didn’t quite suit him, though he performed admirably for both nonetheless and won a Premier League title under each manager.

Hazard, who has also won the FA Cup and Europa Cup with the London side, expects that the more expansive football played at Madrid will get the best out of him, though he would have to compete for places with the likes of Isco, Marco Asensio, and Gareth Bale – although the latter could leave the European champions this summer.

Real Madrid have a longstanding interest in Hazard, with recently departed manager Zinedine Zidane having earmarked the Belgian as a player the club should target when he was still playing for Ligue 1 side Lille.
