  • Jack Wilshere is set to sign for Fenerbahce after his decision to leave Arsenal, according to reports in Turkish media on Thursday.

Wilshere was told by new Arsenal boss Unai Emery that he would not be first choice at the club next season and therefore will be leaving on a free transfer.

The 26-year old would be Fenerbahce’s first major signing after Aziz Yildirim’s two-decade stint as chairman came to an end.

Wilshere was in Istanbul, according to the DHA news agency, and visited Fenerbahce’s stadium while also looking for a house.

“An agreement was found and the deal is expected to be announced in the coming days,” it said.

Fenerbahce president Ali Koc has already got in Damien Comolli, who had worked in the past with Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, as director of football and the business tycoon is looking to make the club a superpower in club football.

Phillip Cocu has been named as manager for a three-year period, after a terrific spell at PSV Eindhoven.

Cocu doesn’t have much time to prepare for what lies ahead, however, as Fenerbahce will be playing their first leg of the Champions League third qualifying round in early August.
