  • Pep Guardiola has reportedly decided against signing a midfielder.

Manchester City are in no rush to bolster their midfield ranks despite missing out on signing Jorginho from Napoli.

The Brazilian-born Italian midfielder had seemingly agreed to a move to the Premier League champions, only for Chelsea to swoop in at the last minute and secure his signature along with that of erstwhile Napoli manager, Maurizio Sarri.

Reports in Italy have linked Pep Guardiola’s outfit with a mooted £72million move for Juventus’ Miralem Pjanic.

However, City have apparently decided that they don’t need to overpay for an established midfielder, with Pjanic and other reported targets, Bayern Munich‘s Thiago Alcantara and Real Madrid‘s Mateo Kovacic.

The club also lost out in the chase for Fred, who chose to join Manchester United from Shakhtar Donetsk despite a move to City having long been mooted.
