Real Madrid have decided to give Marco Asensio a more prominent role in the first team this season instead of signing Eden Hazard, according to Marca.

Gareth Bale is being backed to play a starring role for Los Blancos following Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer to Juventus and Asensio is set to support him in attack.

Madrid believe Chelsea’s 200m valuation of Hazard is unreasonable and would only pay a transfer fee in that region for Neymar at the moment.

However, with the Paris Saint-Germain star confirming his stay in the French capital, Julen Lopetegui is happy to make Asensio a regular in the first XI.

Chelsea are not ready to give up on their pursuit of Gonzalo Higuain, according to the Mirror.

Despite the striker seemingly nearing a loan move to AC Milan having traveled to the city for a medical, the Premier League side are still attempting a last-ditch effort to get his signature.

Chelsea believe that the Argentine forward is not fully satisfied with a loan deal even though there is an option to make it permanent at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, the Blues have been trying to offload Olivier Giroud to Marseille to raise funds to match Milan’s offer.

Willian’s delay in rejoining Chelsea after the World Cup has irked new manager Maurizio Sarri.

The former Napoli coach is not pleased by what he thinks is a ‘strange’ situation and is eager to speak to the player.

“I want to speak to him before I answer these questions,” Sarri told reporters. “I want to speak to him. I am not happy about this situation but before I answer, I would like to speak to him.”

While Barcelona’s pursuit of the Brazilian ended when they signed Malcom instead, the likes of Real Madrid and, particularly, Manchester United remain interested in recruiting him.
