  • The summer transfer window is in full swing especially with Premier League clubs racing to get deals over the line before their August 9 deadline.

With the rumours growing in pace and volume during this ‘silly season’, it can be difficult and painstaking to separate the stories of some legitimacy from the rest of the noise.

Fortunately, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to do it for you.

Below, you’ll find some of the latest transfer news churned out of the Rumour Mill broken down and analysed for your benefit along with our calculated predictions.

TOBY ALDERWEIRELD – TOTTENHAM TO MANCHESTER UNITED

Tottenham have eased their stance on Toby Alderweireld’s future and are now willing to sell him to Manchester United, the Mirror reports.

The north London outfit have decided to sell the Belgium centre-back to United in the next couple of days and are expected to reduce their asking price that was initially in the region of £75 million, to £60m.

Why it will happen: United have made no secret of their desire to sign the Belgian, who is regarded as one of the best in his position. With the centre-back refusing to sign a new deal, it makes sense for Spurs to cash in now rather than lose him for his release clause of £25m next summer.

Why it won’t happen: Spurs chief Daniel Levy may dig his heels in lest this compromise portrays an air of weakness in the market. Meanwhile, United may try to drive the price down further given their progress in negotiations for Yerry Mina and end up losing out.

Prediction: It’s proven to be one of the transfer sagas that has dominated this summer’s window and it remains uncertain. With the deadline drawing nearer though, something’s got to give and logic dictates that it would be best for all parties if Alderweireld was allowed his move to Old Trafford.

AARON RAMSEY – ARSENAL TO CHELSEA

    Aaron Ramsey

    Aaron Ramsey

Chelsea are the latest club to show an interest in signing Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal this summer, according to the Express.

Chelsea are set to miss out on Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic and are now preparing a £35m bid for the 27-year-old.

Why it will happen: Sarri appears determined to add to his midfield options and Ramsey brings proven Premier League pedigree. Arsenal would prefer to let the Welshman leave for what seems like a reasonable fee, rather than lose him for nothing next summer.

Why it won’t happen: Chelsea are still pursuing other midfield targets, while Ramsey hasn’t given an indication that he is set on a move away from the Emirates yet.

Prediction: Even if the Blues fail to land their other targets, in Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, they boast midfielders capable of stepping up. One can’t underestimate the experience Ramsey would bring to the side though, not to mention virtually guaranteed goals and assists from midfield.

LUKA MODRIC – REAL MADRID TO INTERNAZIONALE

    Luka Modric.

    Luka Modric.

Julen Lopetegui has ended speculation of Luka Modric leaving Real Madrid for Internazionale.

The Spaniard insists that Los Blancos are waiting for the Croatia captain ‘with open arms’.

Why it will happen: Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Madrid have vehemently dismissed the speculation, but the player himself has maintained silence. A loan move has been suggested of late and if Modric is keen to push through the move, it isn’t outside the realms of possibility.

Why it won’t happen: Lopetegui will want one of his best passers to implement his possession-based style of play. Modric still has a couple of years, at least, at the top. With Cristiano Ronaldo gone, it’s players like him who are going to be far more integral to the team. Madrid have had a relatively quiet transfer window. Take your pick.

Prediction: A move to Serie A may be of interest to Modric, but this offer may have come a year or two too soon. Madrid will not let him go without a fight.
