Barcelona are considering one final push for Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong before the transfer window closes on August 31, reports Sport.

The La Liga champions have been heavily linked with the exciting 21-year-old, although it would take a fee in excess of £50 million (Dhs 234 million) for a deal to go through.

The Dutch U21 star started 25 times for the Eredivisie side last term, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process. Ernesto Valverde is reportedly keen to sign De Jong as he looks to bolster his midfield ahead of next season.

De Jong, who still has four years remaining on his contract, has also been monitored by Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata insists he never thought of leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.

The 25-year-old struggled in the second half of last season, scoring just three times in 22 appearances, leading to increased speculation that he was set to depart West London after just one season.

Despite being linked with Juventus, the Spaniard said his sole focus is making things work out under new boss Maurizio Sarri.

“There was never a thought for me to leave,” Morata said. “For me, it’s easy. I could have gone back to Spain or Italy, all the people believe in me there but I want to change all the things here. I want to, not for all the haters, but for me and for Chelsea.

“I am looking forward to buying a house and I can’t wait for the babies to grow up to put them into school. I am very happy and it’s just the beginning of the new season. Why would I not be happy? I want to change all the thinking from the people who say I’m not.

“It’s the only reason I stay here, otherwise if Chelsea said you are not in our plans, I move.”

Gianluigi Buffon wants his former Juventus team-mate Claudio Marchisio to sign for PSG, claims Le10Sport.

The 32-year-old midfielder, who entered the Juve academy as a seven-year-old in 1993 and made his senior debut in 2005, left the Italian champions by mutual consent on Saturday.

Should Buffon fail to bring the Marchisio to the French capital, the 32-year-old could join MLS side Montreal Impact.
