  • Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek has played down rumours linking him with a move to Barcelona, though he’s aware of the speculation.

The man dubbed the “next Robert Lewandowski” after his more famous fellow Polish striker has made a torrific start to life in Italy, scoring eight goals in four appearances. That tally includes four from three in Serie A, and a four-goal haul in the Coppa Italia.

His form has reportedly caught the eye of the La Liga champions, with Barca said to be lining up the 23-year-old as a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez.

However, Piatek is focused only on performing for his current team, whom he joined only this summer.

“I don’t think the links with Barcelona are true, even though I’ve heard about it,” the forward told Sky Sports Italia.

Piatek also laughed off the comparison to compatriot Lewandowski, Poland’s all-time top scorer.

“I can’t be compared to Lewandowski – he plays for Bayern Munich, myself at Genoa,” he said.
