Attacking midfielder Maicosuel has arrived in the UAE to undergo a medical after Sharjah agreed a one-season loan deal with Atletico Mineiro.

Maicosuel, 29, has been pursued by the King all summer but the move appeared to hit the rocks earlier this week. Negotiations halted because of the €1.8 million (Dh7.3m) fee demanded by the Brazilian club, leading to a pursuit of Cruzeiro’s Marquinhos.

Once he rejected the switch, Sharjah successfully returned for the former 1899 Hoffenheim man.

“Maicosuel landed in Dubai Airport in preparation for signature after medical examinations,” his new club tweeted on Thursday.

Maicosuel has scored three goals in 27 league appearances for Galo since he came back to South America last year after an ill-fated switch to Serie A’s Udinese. He should add class to a squad which badly stuttered during countryman Paulo Bonamigo’s second season in charge, finishing one spot outside the relegation zone in 12th.

Once his temporary transfer is finalised, he will complete an all-Brazilian four-player foreign quota.

Centre-back Maurico Ramos – who holds a Palestinian passport – and deadly striker Wanderley were retained, fellow midfielder Renato Caja being bought from Ponte Preta earlier this month.
