  • Salah spent last season on loan at Fiorentina.

Chelsea winger Mohammad Salah is poised to move to Serie A outfit Roma after his agent dropped a massive hint on Twitter by tweeting a picture of i Giallorossi’s badge.

Salah, who spent last season on loan at Italian rivals Fiorentina, has been involved in a bitter wrangling over his movements this season with agent Ramy Abbas at the heart of negotiations over the player’s future.

Fiorentina believed they had an option to extend Salah’s stay beyond his loan move only for the player to ‘veto’ a deal.

It left La Viola fuming and the club have since opened discussions with lawyers in a bid to fight their case but both player and his parent club believe there to be no reason to not press ahead with a move to Roma.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho even stated over the weekend that Salah ‘doesn’t belong at Chelsea’, before Abbas confirmed that discussions with Roma were nearing their conclusion.

It is believed that the Egyptian will initially join Roma on-loan with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season in the region of £14 million (Dhs79.7m).

Having failed to make an impression at Stamford Bridge since moving to West London in 2014, 23-year-old Salah was a revelation in Italy last year, scoring six times in 16 games as he enjoyed a prolonged run in the first team that was not forthcoming at Chelsea.

Mourinho said of Salah this week: “He doesn’t belong to my squad and he’s not staying here. The important thing is that he plays like he did at Fiorentina, so I’m happy with him going on a loan.

“Italian football is difficult football to play, especially for attacking players. So if it’s not Fiorentina it’s Roma or Inter or Juve – I don’t know. Maybe he has a loan.

“He’s a good boy and a good player. He needs more top-level football so I’m happy with any decision him and the club make.”
