Fred Rutten has dismissed rumours he is set to join the Netherlands coaching staff and make an instant exit from Al Shabab.

Rutten, 53, was linked by television programme Goedemorgen Nederland on Friday with becoming assistant to Danny Blind. Such a role would likely demand that he depart Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium just  four months since taking up the post.

But speaking after making a winning start in the Arabian Gulf League against Sharjah, the ex-Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven boss supremo laughed off the reports.

He said: “I am a long time in football, rumours are always there. I am happy with this club, it s a family club and I enjoy it.

“I am happy with that. With me, that is not an issue.

“There were rumours that I was already the technical director, then the coach and now the assistant coach. They (the rumours) are going down.

“I am the type who never leaves in one or two months. It is a challenge and adventure to work here – I already adapted a little bit.”

Rutten’s top-flight bow was a rollercoaster affair. A dominant opening period from the visitors saw youngster Jamal Maroof curl in a 25th-minute opener.

But the Hawks rebounded after the break, skipper Mohammed Marzooq heading them level past the hour mark before Moldova forward Henrique Luvannor calmly slotted home a 83rd-minute winner from the penalty spot.
