Duplays is holding its inaugural Supporter’s Club football tournament and if you’re a passionate fan of your football team, then it’s something you don’t want to miss.
On October 24 and 25, wearing your club’s jersey colours, you can battle it out to be crowned team champions and claim the bragging rights at Jebel Ali Centre of Excellence in Dubai.
The six-a-side tournament, sponsored by Emirates NBD, will have men’s category – of no more than 32 teams – while eight sides will compete in the mixed event with three male and female players each in a side. All players must be 18-years and above with a maximum of 10 in each squad.
Duplays are no strangers to organising football competitions with its Premier Football competitions proving to be a success. And this tournament looks no different.
You will be up against fans of Boca Juniors, Crystal Palace, Manchester United, Birmingham City, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich, who have already signed up. Twelve teams are already on board so there are still slots for enthusiasts to take up. Teams can participate after paying the Dh2,000 signing fee.
The format will be a group and knock-out basis, with the top two teams qualifying for the Cup competition, while the third and fourth-placed sides will enter the Plate event. Matches will last 12 minutes each half, and will be played on outdoor astro-turf surfaces. There are no off-side rules and unlimited rolling substitutions can be made during the games.
Hussain Badri, sponsorship and events manager at Duplays, explained the reason for launching the tournament. He said: “We wanted to do something different from our usual football tournaments that we hold at Duplays. This is a great way of getting different communities involved.”
And he’s calling for more people to sign up. He said: “It’s going to be a fun tournament. The players will really enjoy the matches and the overall atmosphere of taking part.” The winning teams and runners-up will be rewarded with cash prizes and vouchers. The closing date for registration is October 17.
