  • Luis Figo, 44, became one of football’s greatest-ever players during a career which saw him excel for both Real Madrid and Barcelona, plus thrill on the wing for Portugal.

He is currently president of Premier Futsal, the world’s most watched futsal competition, which is heading to Dubai for the first time in August.

The Portuguese spoke to Sport360 ahead of the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Juventus.

    Q) The big selection issue for Real Madrid coming into the final is whether to start Gareth Bale or Isco. What would you do?

Isco is playing fantastic. He has been in fantastic form in the last months, so I hope he has confidence and that is great for the team.

I don’t have that problem to select whether he starts, because I am not a coach. It is not that I have to decide, it is Zinedine Zidane that has to decide which player is better for the team.

    Q) Did you always think Zidane would be as great a coach as he was a player?

I think right now, Zidane is one of the best coaches in the world. He is a good friend and I am really happy he could achieve in one-and-a-half years so many titles.

I am very glad for him. You always wish the best for your friends.

I met him recently in Madrid and he is preparing for the final. He was happy of course, because he had won the league.

He was also conscious that it will be a difficult game against Juventus, but he was positive in terms of the hope that they have to get the Champions League.

    Q) Are Real Madrid the favourite for the final?

There is always a favourite team for every game. But it does not mean that the favourite team wins.

It will be a beautiful final, between two of the biggest teams in the world. I just hope, of course, that Real Madrid can win this amazing trophy.

Of course, I will be in Cardiff to see it.

    Q) What do you think are Juventus’ strengths?

Juventus is a very strong team. Italian teams are all very competitive and well positioned in the pitch.

They play like a team and they are always difficult to beat. Of course, they have players in attack which can make the difference.

It is always a very difficult opponent.

    Q) What are your memories of playing against their legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon?

Gianluigi Buffon is one of the greatest players in the history of football, not just goalkeepers.I have good memories and bad memories of when I lost against him.

But I think he is a fantastic person and a very big reference in football. I am very pleased I could play against him.

    Q) You managed to win the Champions League in 2001/02 with Zidane as a team-mate at Madrid. How fondly do you look back on this?

It is a dream come true when you start to play football and you see it on the television the best club competition in the world. You always want the chance to win it and when you do win it, it is like a dream.
