  • It was a frustrating night for Chelsea at the Nou Camp

Chelsea crashed out of the Champions League after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Barcelona at the Nou Camp in their round-of-16 second leg tie.

Coming into the match with a 1-1 draw, the Premier League side were already behind after 128 seconds when Lionel Messi opened the scoring for the Catalan outfit. Chelsea’s task got enough harder when Ousmane Dembele struck the second later in the first half.

Marcos Alonso hit the post with a free-kick before Messi piled more misery with his 100th Champions League goal as Chelsea joined Manchester United in exiting the competition.

Here’s how Chelsea players fared overall:

Thibaut Courtois 4 – Beaten badly for the opener, nearly gave away another with a poor pass out and could have saved the third 4

Victor Moses 6 – Diligent down the right, giving Alba an uncomfortable night before he was replaced midway through the second half.

Cesar Azpilicueta 7 – Visiting skipper was destroyed by Messi for the third goal, but otherwise defended well against Suarez.

Andreas Christensen 7 – In the centre of Chelsea’s back three and largely looked in control, showing good maturity.

Antonio Rudiger 6 – Beaten easily in the build-up to the opener but solid after that. Hit the bar with a late header.

Marcos Alonso 8 – Struck the outside of the post with a free-kick and could have won a penalty. Strong showing down the left.

Willian 7 – Forced a save with a low fizzed effort and made some dangerous runs, but didn’t hit the heights of the first leg.

N’Golo Kante 7 – Used the ball intelligently and worked tirelessly in defence, even managing to dispossess Messi a couple of times.

Cesc Fabregas 5 – Lost the ball in midfield to Messi to spark the second goal, summing up an off the pace performance.

Eden Hazard 6 – Carried the game to Barca with plenty of possession but didn’t find the end product to match his approach play.

Olivier Giroud 5 – Held up the ball and linked play well, also putting himself about in the air, but lacked guile in the final third.

    SUBSTITUTES

Alvaro Morata 5 – Former Real Madrid man entered to loud whistles. Had little impact and still well below his best.

Davide Zappacosta 6 – Came on at right wing-back for the final stages. Steady enough and had a late shot well saved.

Pedro 5 – Received warm welcome from former fans when he replaced Hazard late on, but had little chance to shine.
