Lionel Messi will lead Argentina into the World Cup.

Lionel Messi has the hopes of a nation on his shoulders this summer with Argentina searching for World Cup triumph in Russia.

Having never won a World Cup, the pressure is on Messi to deliver before his exemplary career comes to an end.

Argentina goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman believes Messi is locked in on the goal and described how the star man has been interacting with his team-mates.

“So far, we see him very focused, working alongside the team, giving the examples as the top ones, which is what he is,” said Guzman.

Early exit: Julen Lopetegui

Just hours after being sacked as Spain’s head coach, Julen Lopetegui has flown back home from Russia.

The 51-year-old was revealed as the new Real Madrid manager on Tuesday – an announcement that left the Spanish Football Federation incenced after he had not discussed the move with them.

Spanish FA chief Luis Rubiales only came to know of the news five minutes before Los Blancos announced the news and he swiftly acted by replacing Lopetegui with ex-Spanish defender Fernando Hierro on Wednesday.
