  • Hirving Lozano and Mexico must find the mental strength to overcome Brazil.

Mexico pulled off the early shock of the World Cup with a 1-0 win over defending champions Germany.

To a man, the players put in a tremendous performance to get the biggest result of their history.

Here are the ratings for El Tri’s instant heroes.

    STARTING XI

Guillermo Ochoa 7 – Most of the shots he had to deal with were fairly tame, but when called upon, he produced the saves required to keep Mexico’s lead intact.

Carlos Salcedo 7 – Alongside the rest of his defensive colleagues, Salcedo put in a superb performance to help soak up the pressure.

Hugo Ayala 7 – Immense at the back, helping his side deal with Germany’s second-half barrage to earn Mexico a famous victory.

Hector Moreno 7 – Played his role as the trusted defender to perfection, reading the game well and distributing.

Jesus Gallardo 8 – What a performance from Gallardo, who coupled his defensive work rate with some astute attacking play.

Hector Herrera 8 – Mexico were never going to control midfield, but thanks to Herrera they stood up to their more fancied opposition.

Andres Guardado 7 – A true captain’s performance from El Tri’s veteran midfielder, helping his side keep the champions at bay.

Miguel Layun 6 – Fluffed his lines a couple of times with chances to put the game out of Germany’s reach. However, his work rate was sublime.

Carlos Vela 7 – Didn’t produce the magical moments he’s capable of, but his effort more than made up for it. Would probably have scored had Hernandez found him on the counter in the second half.

Hirving Lozano 8 – Coming in with the hype of being his team’s next big star, Lozano delivered. He was a constant threat on the counter and finished off one of those moves superbly.

Javier Hernandez 7 – Tireless as ever. His run to pull one defender towards him while dribbling created the space for the first goal, and he should have had another assist in the second half.

    SUBSTITUTES

Edson Alvarez 6 – Provided fresh legs after coming on in the second half, helping his side close out a famous win.

Raul Jimenez 6 – Misplaced passes on a couple of occasions when Mexico were mounting late counter-attacks.

Rafael Marquez 7 – Brought on to be the experienced head as El Tri looked to close out their victory, and did just that.
