  • Down and out: Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal.

Cristiano Ronaldo refused to speculate over his international future following Portugal’s last-16 World Cup exit at the hands of Uruguay on Saturday night.

The Euro 2016 winners were beaten 2-1 by the South American giants as Edinson Cavani netted a brace, scoring either side of Pepe’s early second-half leveller.

Real Madrid icon Ronaldo, who has won 154 caps for Portugal and scored 85 goals, will be nearly 38 by the time the next World Cup takes place in 2022.

But, he has yet to reveal what his future plans are at international level.

“Now is not the time to talk about the future, either of the coach or the players,” the Portugal captain told reporters at the Fisht Stadium in Sochi.

Ronaldo, who has played in four World Cups with his country but only once made it past the last-16, added: “I am sure that Portugal will continue to be one of the best teams in the world. We have a young and ambitious squad.”
