The season has barely finished but F1 drivers have been warned that there’s still more to come from new world champion Lewis Hamilton.
That is the view of his father, Anthony, who lauded his son’s strong mentality and confident approach in claiming the title at the Yas Marina Circuit yesterday.
And as they celebrate his success, Hamilton senior, who only arrived in Abu Dhabi yesterday morning, is predicting many more family parties in the future.
“There’s still more to come from him,” he said.
“Lewis raced this year with a huge amount of pressure and there’s no more pressure than these guys put upon themselves.
“When your back is against the wall, you start thinking all sorts of things.
“You never think straight and say ‘maybe I should do this or do that’ and then you make mistakes and then you have to catch up on those mistakes.”
He added: “It’s been a huge learning curve for Lewis I think, which if you write a book of him for this season where he has been and all the ups and downs, it will be a great book for people to read.”
Praising his son’s “sheer determination” to win this second championship, his first since 2008, Hamilton senior says he was never going to let this opportunity pass him by.
“You can never put a good man down,” he added.
“The season started well but spanners were thrown in the way and not everything went smoothly as you expect.
“And I think if you can rise above that and remain strong then wow, what an amazing example you make for other people.
“At eight years of age, with a rusty old go-kart with no money and now he’s a double world champion and that’s because he never gives up.”
