  • Do you want to see the best juniors in the Gulf region battle it out on the same courts the ATP and WTA players used earlier this year?

You might be in the presence of a future star, so we’d get down to the Aviation Club this coming Friday, May 3, for a clash between teen titans.

That’s where Clark Francis (CF) Tennis will be hosting its showcase junior event, The CF Tennis Swiss Junior Masters Finals – the longest running junior tennis tournament in Dubai.

Not only that, the venue – home of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships – is a hub for some great post-match entertainment, making this our pick of the weekend for sporting and socialising residents.

This event comes after a series of tournaments running from September through to May, when the Finals are usually held, after which the top-ranked players in each age group get the chance to show what they’re made of one last time.

The reward: an all-expenses-paid trip to the French Open, Roland Garros; a dream of any young tennis star in the making. Swiss International Airlines are the title sponsor of the tournament and will be providing the winners with their air tickets.

What’s more, adidas have come on board to kindly allow the lucky winners VIP access into their box in the Court Philippe Chatrier to watch the pros in action. Jealous? We are.

When the tournament started out, it boasted over 150 male and female juniors in several age categories all fighting for a place in the closing event, which will only feature the six best players on the day. Age categories include the Green Series 10’s & Under, Swiss 12’s, 14’s, 18’s and Under.

Clark Francis tennis director Jon Guntley explained: “The players qualify in each of the age groups by participating in our CF Tennis Swiss Junior Series events, which ran every Friday throughout the season, and collecting ranking points as the pros do for each round and event won. The top 16 ranked players were selected.

“Players to watch on Friday will be Deepshika Sriram in the Girls 10’s and Under, Hercules Gerousis in the Boys 10’s and Under (both CF Tennis players and both ranked and seeded No1), plus Miguel Nau and Angel Macleod who have dominated both the 12’s and 14’s and Under Boys/Girls events,” he tipped.

“Last year we had special guest and UAE number one Omar Behroozian attended the prize-giving and speak to, congratulate the players.”

Reaching out to interested spectators, Guntley said: “The event is free for everyone to come and watch and the tennis will be of a great standard. There will also be a free raffle with prizes kindly donated by adidas, as well as the actual prize-giving ceremony.”

Swing by to watch some youth talent on court then.
