More than 300 runners have signed up for the LM Exchange Road Run but there’s still time to join them with registration closing next Tuesday.
Open to athletes aged 16 and over, the event will take place on Friday, February 26 at The Track Golf Clubhouse, Meydan in Dubai, beginning at 07:00.
Whether you’re an experienced or intermediate runner, there are two different distances to choose from: 3km and the 8km.
Popular: The inaugural run in April last year saw the participation of over 500 people.
Organisers Team Sports UAE are no strangers to hosting running competitions with their inaugural Road Run featuring more than 500 people. It’s part of their drive to attract more competitors to take up sport.
Mehr Un Nisa, event director of Team Sports UAE, said: “Our last event in April 2015 was a massive success with plenty of people turning up. We want to make this month’s even bigger and better.
“This time around, the run is being organised with a new approach as the purpose is always to send out a strong message that sports is for anyone of any ability.
“We have found that running is a perfect way to engage people, because it’s simple and fun. We have organised two distances: 3km and 8km so whether they regularly run before or not, it’s a great way to be part of this run.”
There are eight age categories ranging from 16 and above with prizes up for grabs for the top finishers. Un Nisa said: “It’s going to be a fun road run but we have special trophies, medals and vouchers for the runners who finish first in their age category.”
With more than a week remaining for registration, Un Nisa insists there’s plenty of reasons to sign up.
“It is a social, community as well as a family event,” she said.
“While it’s competitive, the focus is on participation and so far entry numbers have been very positive with over 300 signing up.
“There’s still time to register and we can be sure it will be a memorable occasion for those who compete.”
