  • Something for everyone: Races over four different distances are available.

The Hatta Hills Running Festival makes its debut next month and while it promises to be a challenging race, you can still sign up with registration remaining open.

Organised by Super Sports Events, the race will see runners compete on different routes surrounding the Hatta Fort Hotel complex in Dubai on Friday, March 11. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced athlete, the race is open for all abilities with 3, 5, 10 and 21km distances to choose from.

Those competing in the longer format will tackle the tartan surface, and then face a steep hill before navigating their way through the mountain range and onto an off-road track.

The route for the 3 and 5km courses will be far easier but challenging as the competitors run around the hotel’s complex.

“The Hatta Hills Running Festival concept is to ensure we can offer the entire family an opportunity to participate on the day,” said Warren Van Der Merwe, race director of Super Sports Events.

“The 21km and 10km races will be for the seasoned campaigners, while the 3km and 5km cross-country run is for juniors and beginner runners.”

Super Sports Events are no strangers to organising competitions with their aquathlons and triathlons proving to be a big hit.

The routes surrounding the Hatta Fort Hotel complex are picturesque.

And Van der Merwe insists the Hatta Hills Running Festival has the potential to grow.

“The hotel and Hatta Municipality have offered us all the support we need to make this a memorable race for all so we are looking forward to seeing many families coming down to enjoy the day or weekend in Hatta and help us make this an annual race.”

Nicholas Campos, operations manager of the Hatta Fort Hotel, added: “This running festival is  a great initiative by Super Sports Events to bring running families and activities to Hatta and with our beautiful scenery.

“I am sure all runners will return year after year. Post-race, we will be offering a breakfast to runners and their families and with many expected to spend the night at the hotel, it will be a perfect way to spend the weekend with us here in Hatta”

Entry fees vary between Dh100 and Dh175 depending on the distance, which includes a medal, refreshments and electronic chip timing.
