If you’re looking for a new challenge or love to cycle, then you may want to consider signing up for the Spinning Marathon which returns later this month.
The Room in Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi will host another edition on Saturday, May 27, that will run for six hours from 09:00 to 15:00.
In what is a unique event, it is open to people of all abilities and up to you how long you want to compete for. Advanced riders can test themselves for the full duration, while those who are beginners or intermediate, can register to ride a leg on a relay team of two to six people sharing a bike.
Those who hit the bike will be motivated by a qualified spinning instructor, including Peter Pastijn, who will take charge for one hour in a vibrant atmosphere.
Since launching in 2014, the event has gone from strength to strength. And this month’s will be no different.
“The Spinning Marathon is about the community and we want to bring people of all fitness levels and backgrounds together,” Pastijn, who is co-owner and co-founder of The Room.
“It’s important to stress that it’s not a competition. It’s all about cardiovascular fitness. The idea is for people to have a great time together. People don’t have to compete for the full six hours if they don’t wish. They can sign up for an hour or do it as part of a team.”
Have fun: Entry fees are Dh250 for individuals and Dh150 for teams.
He added: “The previous Spinning Marathons that we have held have been very successful. We had events ranging from 50-150 people in Abu Dhabi and the community is growing.
“For this month’s event, we are hoping to attract between 80 and 100 participants from Abu Dhabi. We are also bringing in renowned instructor Jarek Witek from Poland, who will be among the instructors to lead for an hour, as a way of saying thank you to those people who have trained with us this season.”
For athletes wishing to compete individually, the entry fee costs Dh250, while for teams it’s Dh150.
Pastijn believes participants will have a great time experiencing a unique event. “It will be fun and physically challenging,” he said. “You can join no matter what fitness level you are at, so you and your friends can have a great time together. It is not about competition. Moreover you will be welcomed by a very experienced team from The Room who have been organising Spinning events in the region for the last three years.”
