It’s that time of the year where the scorching heat puts an end to sporting activities but it’s business as usual at Dubai Sports City (DSC) with their Junior Summer Camps.

Since opening in 2008, DSC has become a significant multi-venue in the UAE that has seen top international football and cricket teams train, including Manchester United and Australia, train at the state-ofthe-art facilties. And now juniors can get a taste of what it feels like in two exciting programmes.

At the ICC Academy, youngsters can look forward to developing their cricket skills through coaching and fun games. Running in five-day blocks from Sunday, July 3, to Thursday, July 28, and Sunday, July 31, to August 25, the ICC Academy’s fully qualified staff will ensure the kids will have plenty of fun during the three hour sessions.

“The Summer Camps at the ICC Academy have been very successful,” said ICC Academy general manager Will Kitchen. “The Summer activities at the Home of Elite Cricket were booked to capacity with 30 players taking part every day with 900 kids attending the programme.”

Open to kids between six and 12, Kitchen said the programme covers all aspects of learning and developing new skills. “We’ve always striven to provide the best for the next generation and the Summer Camp is a great opportunity for those who love the sport to learn about many exciting aspects of cricket,” he said.

“This is both on the pitch in terms of basics such as batting, bowling and fielding to mental skills such as reflexes and decision making, and off it, with games that incorporate the intensity of sports tactics and strategy.”

Budding footballers will not want to miss out on the Spanish Soccer School’s camp. Whether you’ve always loved the beautiful game or starting to take your first steps, youths aged from five-to-16 are guaranteed plenty of excitement over eight weeks.

Like cricket, the camps run in five-day blocks from June 26 to Thursday August 18 from 08:30 to 15:00 and are run by former Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado and a stable of UEFA-accredited coaches. The Football Academy manager Inaki Beni insists there’s plenty of positives by signing up.

“The camp at the Dubai Sports City Football Academy is a multisport affair that is always aimed towards keeping kids on their toes, both physically and mentally,” he said. “We believe it is vital that children stay active, because sports is an extremely important part of a healthy lifestyle. To provide the best, means to be able to give kids whatever they need to thrive in a particular environment and the kids who attend Dubai Sports City’s Summer Camps will get just that.”

The football camp costs Dh250 daily, Dh1,000 per week and Dh7,000 for the full term, while for cricket it’s Dh900 for the five days. What: Football and Cricket Summer Camps
