Teams can consist of up to 10 players, with plenty of prizes on offer.

Corporates can swap the office for the bat and ball and test themselves against their peers in a new and exciting cricket tournament in Dubai.

The T10 Corporate Cricket competition launches next month at Sportzone, Fitness First Meadows and entry numbers have been very encouraging so far. But you can still join them ahead of Saturday’s (August 20) deadline.

Sixteen teams will vie for glory in the 10-over group matches on Friday, September 16 and 23, with the top sides advancing to the knockout stages with the title to be decided on October 1st.

It is the inaugural edition, organised by Fit On Click in partnership with Fitness First at Sportzone and Ben Samuel insists there’s plenty of reasons to sign up.

“We invite cricket fans from corporates around the UAE  to play the one and only indoor tennis ball corporate tournament where teams will be locking horns and competing against each other,” said Samuel, founder of Fit On Click.

“Although it’s cricket and prizes can be won, the true vision we want to bring is to improve them individually and as a team, as it can have a positive impact on the company.

The most important things that we want to achieve is to stimulate teamwork, enhance their confidence, improve the communication and working relationships in the office as well promoting the importance of health and fitness.”

Players must be aged 18 and over with squads of no more than 10 people. Besides the winning trophy for the champions, there’s plenty to play for with attractive prizes for the top players throughout the tournament.

Registration fee per squad is Dhs3,500 which includes custom designed jerseys with team logo, award function and after party, and entry passes for friends and family.

With cricket widely played in the UAE, Samuels is sure the tournament will be huge success.

“The great thing about this is that you don’t need any playing experience to enter,” he said. “It’s a chance to get together as a team and do something different.

Cricket is a great team sports and our competition is an exciting and different concept between outdoor and indoor versions.”

One of Abu Dhabi’s renowned courses will play host to the event.

The Texas Scramble format has so far seen a number of entries for the August 20 event, but you can still join them ahead of Saturday’s deadline (August 13).

Open to teams of four, you will battle on one of the capital’s stunning courses with top honours up for grabs.

SBGC are no strangers to hosting successful golf tournaments and this month’s will be no different.

“We run monthly tournaments for members and guests but at the same time we like to introduce themed golf competitions that are open to all,” said Clinton Norris, PGA, sales manager at Abu Dhabi Golf Club and SBGC.

“And with the Olympics already under way in Brazil this month, we thought it would be ideal to organise an Olympic themed tournament that is unique and that will provide a fun experience for golfers in Abu Dhabi. It’s a great chance to represent your country on the golf course.”

Saadiyat's greens have reacted well to the high temperatures, according to Clinton Norris.

Entry fees vary between Dh150 and Dh650, with the competition open to visitors, EGF, SBGC, Abu Dhabi Golf Club members and residents. Included in the fee is an Olympic themed buffet, bottled water and practice to the facilities on the day itself. The men’s handicap is 28 and 36 for women.

While prizes are available for the winning team, there are also opportunities to win spot prizes with categories including Nearest to the Pin.

With a few days to register, Norris insists it will be a memorable competition.

“The SBGC Olympics is the first time we’ve held this and we are really anticipating that it will be a super fun event. The team event means each person will have a part to play and it’s also a relaxed format which is perfect at this time of the year because of the heat.

“The golf course is in the best ever condition and the grass type we have has reacted well to the high temperatures and the greens are rolling superbly. It really is a stunning venue and ready to host a great tournament.”

He added: “Saadiyat Beach Golf Club hold around six tournaments open for visitors but we will be hosting more themed events this year with the Ryder Cup, Halloween and Christmas competitions.”
