  • Guiding hand: Kids aged between four and 15 are eligible to receive expert coaching in Abu Dhabi for free.

Running from September 5 to 10, the lessons will offer an insight into the club’s junior development programme (JDP) which returns for another edition later in the month.

Open for kids aged between four and 15, the children will be split into different groups based on their skill level and get introduced to the basics of the game by fully-qualified professionals in sessions ranging from 45 to 90 minutes.

“The aim of the free junior week is to try to encourage as many juniors to become involved in the game as possible,” said Carly Tjader, sales and marketing manager at Yas Links.

“We would like to share with the local community our love of the game and our passion of growing this wonderful sport.”
JDP has been running for many years, teaching many youths in the capital. And as part of its drive in promoting the sport from grass-roots level, Yas Links are keen to see more new faces.

“The Junior Development Program has been going on for a few years now with great success,” said Tjader.

“However, the free week preceding the launch of the programmes is new to the Golf Academy. We see a lot of the same juniors completing their Junior Developement Programme and graduating into the next, which is exciting to see their journey.

“Nevertheless, it would be great to see some new and fresh faces to inspire along with our excelling students.”

Classes start between 08:30 to 18:00, depending on the age group with up to four classes per day to choose from. Besides playing on one of the top courses in the UAE, Mark Jones, teaching professional at Yas Links insists there’s plenty of positives for signing up.

“Our goal for the new programme is to build a love of the game through our custom multi-sports learning system,” he said.

“We aim to build the little athletes by improving their fundamental movement skills with activities which include the movements of throwing, catching, running, jumping, skipping, crawling and many more actions which gives the player flexibility, agility, co-ordination, speed and again many more body principles. This will allow juniors to unleash their potential and have lots of fun.”
