  • Youngsters will receive expert coaching from the basics to taking their game further.

Running daily from Sunday, September 11, to Saturday, September 17, it’s a chance for youths to get into the swing of things and enjoy fun activities during their one-hour session.

Aimed for kids between six and 16-years-old, the classes are open to all abilities. After last year’s success, the signs are showing this month’s tutorials will be another big hit.

“We had around 140 kids last year which was great and we are hoping this time around that it will be even bigger and better,” said Steve Johns, head PGA golf professional at ADCGC.

“We have around 80 kids confirmed already but still with a week to go, we’re confident we’ll get between 150-200.”

    Coaching clinic details

    • Where: Abu Dhabi City Golf Club
    • When: Sept 11-17 from 17:00-18:00
    • Contact: email [email protected] or phone 02 44 59600

“The importance of this is that it’s an introduction to golf. That means they will be briefed on the safety aspects first and then start off with the general warm-up exercises. We’ll then move on to how to hold the clubs and then focus on half-swings and full-swings before hitting golf shots. It will still be hot but there will be towels and plenty of water to keep them cool.”

The sessions are part of the club’s vision in promoting sport to youngsters, and those interested in taking their game further can join the youth development programme which begins later this month.

“This is just a taster session to what they might expect when our new junior programme begins. Those interested will get a discounted price and we hope children do enjoy themselves and enroll for the new season,” said Johns.

Classes are held between 17:00 and 18:00 with 25 places available each day. Advance booking is essential and children will be split into groups according to their skill level and guided by qualified professionals.

With a few days to go, Johns insists it’s an opportunity not to be missed.

“We have limited places so it’s a first-come-first-served basis,” he said.

“There are no catches whatsoever. If they don’t’ enjoy it, they can walk away but we back ourselves that they will. We want to get as many youngsters to take up the sport and why charge to do that, when you can do that for free.”
