  • The stunning Yas Links hosts the Abu Dhabi Open this week.

Get into the swing of things and test yourself against some of the country’s best amateurs at Yas Links Summer Open later this month.

Entries for the competition on Friday, September 16 have been encouraging but you can still join them ahead of Wednesday’s deadline. Open to players with a valid handicap, golfers will contest in the individual stableford format for a chance to reign supreme in the capital.

Previous editions of the tournament have been a huge success and next week’s looks set to be no different.

“They’ve been a huge hit” said Carly Tjader, sales and marketing manager at Yas Links. “Last year, we had 108 participants in total, which was an increase on the previous year by 30 entrants. This time around, the Summer Open isn’t in the middle of the summer so the temperature will be cooler by then hopefully.”

The award-winning venue has won numerous top accolades since opening in 2010 and was named in the top 100 World’s Greatest Golf Courses, published by Golf Digest magazine earlier this year. But this hasn’t stopped Yas Links providing the perfect experience.

“We plan for the experience to be even further elevated with a course that’s just finished its summer renovations,” said Tjader. “We are happy to say the course is in the best shape it’s been in for a long time.”

The Yas Links Summer Open has proven to be a huge hit in the past.

Entry costs Dh100 for Yas Links members, Emirates Golf Federation members will pay Dh350, while guests will be charged Dh400 and juniors Dh195. Included in the fee is one round of golf, buffet, and shared golf cart with GPS. Besides the winning trophy, there is plenty to play for with Longest Drive and Nearest to the Pin for both men and women up for grabs.

With a few days to go until deadline, Tjader insists there’s plenty of incentive to sign up.

“The value in itself is not to be beaten with all the bells and whistles in addition to a round of golf on our Championship Links course,” she said.

“It is a perfect opportunity to meet others, or use the day to solely play and to compete for some great prizes. If they are considering membership with us in the New Year, it is also a great way to meet current members and learn the current and upcoming offerings we have here at Yas Links.

“They can also take advantage of the weekend and book a stay on Yas Island with an exclusive rate for playing the Open. Either way the day is meant to be fun on and off the course.”
