Australian international Dylan Hennessey, regarded by many as the best touch player in the world, and New Zealand international Peter Walters, frequently dubbed the ‘Godfather of Touch’, will join forces and share their passion for the game when they arrive in the Emirates later this month.
Taking place at the Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club on Friday, October 21, the tournament is now in its third year and is the largest in the region. More than 36 teams across men’s, mixed, women’s and vets from the UAE will be joined by a host of teams from around the world, including the UK, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait.
They will battle it out on the pitch as they try to pass, tap and dodge their way to victory. For the first time this year, there will also be a youth tournament, for under-9s, under-12s and under-14s.
President of Middle East Touch, John Larkins, said: “With the game’s strong Australian and New Zealand heritage, we are delighted to have both Dylan and Peter on board and playing for the same side at this year’s tournament.
“Who better to learn the ins and outs of the game from than two of the sport’s real heroes? With more than 150 international caps between them, we’re sure they will provide fantastic inspiration to all participants on the day.

“Kings Al Barsha has recently become the new Centre of Excellence for Touch in Dubai and the number of grassroots programmes we run in Abu Dhabi has doubled in the last year alone.
“As a totally inclusive sport, regardless of age, sex or ability, it’s so encouraging that more and more people are recognising the benefits of Touch as a means of getting fit and active in a fun and social environment.
“For those who have the touch bug already or those wanting to give it a try, it’s not too late to register a team.”
Just because it’s a sporty day, it doesn’t mean you have to play as there is plenty also on offer for spectators.
For those coming along on the day who are not planning to don their sports kit, there is no excuse not to stand around the sidelines.
A variety of kids’ activities, including arts and crafts, a bouncy castle, organised ball games, and a variety of stalls, food and refreshments will help ensure everybody has a great day out. The tournament will culminate with a special prize-giving dinner in the evening.
