The flagship hotel of Alila Hotels & Resorts, which lies 2,000 metres above sea-level in the Al Hajar mountain range in Oman, has recently introduced its majestic trails, including one that stands as the highest of its kind in the Middle East.
Guests at the hotel can explore both the hair-raising Cave Affair Experience or the more scenic Adventure Trek through the via ferrata, which is a protected climbing route. Thrill-seekers will be in for a treat with the Cave Affair, which will take guests across an exposed 20m high rope over a cave mouth and along the side of the canyon before ascending into a steep gully.
It’s enough to bring out the Indiana Jones in anyone and get your adrenaline pumping.
You’ll also hike through wild olive trees and mountain greenery, with a trek back up the mountain wrapping up the trip to offer stunning views from the private balconies in the hotel.
While you don’t have to be in incredible shape for the Cave Affair, be warned that it is a Level 5, meaning it requires a degree of fitness. The two-hour experience starts from $90 per person.

If you’re not up for the advanced via ferrata, fear not because guests can still enjoy spectacular views with the 90-minute Adventure Trek.
Following an initial steep decline down the face of the mountain, you’ll gradually go down a path leading into the wadi and passing mountain scenery. Over there will be a hidden village within a cave in the wadi floor, called Al Khutaymi.
After another 15 minutes into the trip, guests can take a refreshing dip in a pool in the Green Mountains before making their way back to the hotel.
You won’t need nearly as much fitness for the Level 2, but it will still require some stamina. The price for the Adventure Trek starts from $78 per person.
