  • Smash-hit: There are various awards on offer in the league.

Having hosted many indoor cricket tournaments, United Pro Sports (UPS) have added yet another to their schedule with a brand new competition which gets under way from February 11.

With the United Super League, UPS are looking to enhance the quality and raise the profile of indoor cricket in Dubai.

Open to corporate, club teams and individuals, the league and knockout format tournament is open to all abilities, whether you’ve played the sport or not, with professional and amateur divisions to choose from.

Besides the winning trophy, there’s plenty to play for with Best Bowler, Best Fielder and Best Batsman awards to be won while the winning teams of each division will get free entry in the second season of USL.

For the runners-up, they will also get 50 per cent discount for the next edition. “This is a new idea from us at United Pro Sports and we are trying to bring innovation to indoor cricket,” said Sanjay Asarpota, managing director of UPS.

“This is just the start for us. We will be planning to host the United Super League four times a year to make it more interesting for the teams and players.

“We want to make this a flagship event in the UAE which gives professional clubs and amateurs a chance to play on a more regular basis.”

“Matches will be played on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays starting at 19:30 and 21:30 with each team guaranteed three games. “All the professional sides will be put together in one group while there are two divisions in the amateurs – where two winners will emerge,” said Asarpota.

“The idea is for teams to play one game per week. But more often than not, teams may want to play more games which is possible. We are very flexible in schedules and keep in mind what our tournament is being played for.”

Team entries cost Dh1,400 while it’s Dh200 per individual to join. With registration closing on February 2, Asarpota insists the league is one not to be missed.

“We are going to follow the indoor cricket format and one of the highlights is that every player has to bat and bowl,” he said.

“That’s something very unique about indoor cricket where every player has an important role in the game.”
