  • Water predator: Become a Gator and take your swimming to new heights.

If you’re looking to learn swimming or even develop your skills in the water, here’s your chance to pick the brains of an ex-world bronze medallist professional at his brand new academy in Dubai.

Gators DXB was just launched in December, but already has attracted around 100 swimmers of different nationalities under the supervision of ex-Egyptian swimmer Mohamed El-Zanaty and his coaching team.

Based at Hamdan Sports Complex with classes also held at German School, whether you’re a beginner or advanced level swimmer, various programmes are offered.

Their Baby Gators is open to kids aged two and above, which introduces them to the basics of swimming. Once you know the first steps in freestyle and backstroke, then their Development Gators will see you improve your techniques as well as working on the other strokes.

For those who already know how to swim, they will be put in the Gators Team, which consists of swimmers competing in national and international competition.

While there are many fantastic academies in the UAE, head coach El-Zanaty feels there are plenty of reasons on why people should join Gators DXB. “Gators DXB is Dubai’s No1 professional swimming academy,” said El-Zanaty, who was also the former coach of the UAE national team.

“We’ve only been opened since December but we have more than 100 swimmer of different levels and nationalities, but we still want more swimmers to join us.

Quality over quantity: Mohamed El-Zanaty believes his relatively small, but growing squad is rapidly improving.

“It doesn’t matter whether they can swim or not. There are different classes that are available. Newcomers will have to do a try-out session and based on their abilities, we’ll put them in the correct class.

“Our aim is to help them develop their techniques and knowledge so that they can go on and represent their country at national and international competitions. As well as swimming, athletes will also learn the importance of fitness, which is also implemented in the programme.”

El-Zanaty added: “We know there are a lot of academies in the country. Although we have small numbers, I feel we have a strong squad in terms of quality, not quantity.”

“From what I’ve seen there’s been a lot of progress and are learn ing fast. Overall, it’s a great place for swimmers who want to reach the top level.”

“Swimming is something I love and I can pass on my knowledge and experience to the people so hopefully they can achieve best results in the future.”
