Dubai residents can look forward to a family-fun, sporting spectacular at Dubai Sports City as they open their doors showcasing the very best of their sporting activities on offer ahead of the new season.
Taking place this Saturday from 09:00 to 12:30 at The Dome and ICC Academy, it’s your chance to experience a wide variety of coaching programmes and entertainment activities.
These include lessons from the ICC Academy’s world-class cricket coaching team, football trials from the Spanish Soccer School, golf taster sessions from The Els Club and Butch Harmon School of Golf, as well as demonstrations and activities from the newly formed Dubai Sports City Eagles rugby team.
Entry is free of charge and will allow parents and children to take part in lots of competitions, try their hand at the brand new fitness zone with complimentary fitness classes and activities for all the family, as well as sample some delicious dishes from a range of its premium food and beverage outlets.
Coaches will be available throughout the day, giving insights into their favourite sport and offering advice on which activity suits them best. Children who sign up for an academy will also receive special discounts on the day.
And for budding cricketers, there’s even more reason to attend with the ICC Academy hosting open trials from 14:00. Open to boys aged 12-18, up to 12 talented cricketers will be selected by the ICC Academy for a fully-funded scholarship in their Warriors Emerging Players Programme.
Khalid Al Zaroon, Dubai Sports City president, believes there’s plenty of reasons to attend. “The Dubai Sports City open day is one of the highlights on our extensive events calendar, it’s a great opportunity for the whole community to get together and try their hand at wide range of activities that we have here on offer at Dubai Sports City,” he said.
“Our open day is an excellent opportunity for the whole family to come and try out a new sport or activity that they may have not tried before and enjoy it for many years to come.
“The open day also allows us to demonstrate and emphasise the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle, which we believe is a way of life – sport really has a unique way of bringing people together.
“Those attending will also have the chance to take part in competitions, activities and sample some of the delicious food we have on site, so whether you are a sporting fanatic, looking to get fit with the family or try out a new activity, there’s something for you.”

Yasalam’s Get Driver Fit programme is back and better than ever to offer participants a fun way to get fit across the capital.
The annual fitness programme returns for its fifth year on Sunday, September 17 for seven weeks of free exercise classes and community health events.
A variety of class options will include HIIT training, yoga, boxing and more, to be held on Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, Umm al Emarat Park, Khalifa City and Yas Marina Circuit, as well as new locations such as Yas Beach, Gateway Park and Yas Links.
The class schedule also features popular activities like ladies-only Zumba and body toning, along with bi-weekly seminars for coaching to help participants reach their fitness goals.
New to this year is the online registration system, providing a convenient alternative to arriving early at the launch event to sign up.
After going through the fitness assessment, participants will have the chance to get a 3D body scan to calculate their health metrics and track their progress throughout the programme.
John Lickrish, CEO of FLASH Entertainment, said: “Get Driver Fit continues to grow and strengthen year-on-year, which is testament to Abu Dhabi community’s commitment to getting fit and active.
This year, in addition to accessibility across the Capital, we wanted to bring more of the action to the heart of Yasalam on Yas Island.
“We are excited to witness the festival make waves with its innovative approach to community and leisure, as well as support the Abu Dhabi Government’s health and education agenda to improve physical literacy alongside our partner, Daman.”
Becoming your fittest self isn’t the only incentive to take part. Last year, two winners with the best overall score earned a trip to Goa, India.
This year, the top male and female participants with the best class attendance, overall physical transformation and performance time at the finale will also win an getaway grand prize.
The winners will be announced at the GDF Fitness Festival at the du Forum on November 10, which will have fitness classes, demonstrations, fitness talks, street sports, competitions and a family fun zone.

The UAE is home to stunning areas of nature and with Quest for Adventure’s kayak tour, you can experience one of those must-visit locations.
The adventure sports company will conduct kayak tours in Al Zorah, Ajman, as part of the emirate’s initiative to increase tourism in the nation’s natural peninsula.
Flush with mangroves, lagoons and salt lakes, the destination, which has been officially declared a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention, has plenty to offer visitors.
As well as the scenery, Al Zorah, spanning over one million square metres, features over 102 species of native and migratory birds, including pink flamingos that can be seen throughout the year and even more so during nesting season.
Visitors and scientists alike can also view a variety of fish, molluscs, corals and indigenous flora.
Imad Dana, chief executive officer of Al Zorah Development Company, said: “Al Zorah is a luxury destination in the Middle East built around an undisturbed ecosystem underlined by rich biodiversity.
“With the Ramsar Convention placing Al Zorah on the global map to highlight its immense environmental value, we are offering visitors, including students, the opportunity to explore the natural mangroves and creek through the Kayak Tours.
“The tours will open doors to memorable experiences with the promise of sighting a range of native and migratory birds. The serene ambience of the mangroves will be truly uplifting for every visitor.”
With Quest for Adventure, participants will get a guided tour using single or double Sit-On-Top kayaks. All the equipment needed is provided and no experience is necessary.
The tours will begin this month and are open to the public, as well as students through a guided schools programme.
Visitors to Al Zorah can also check out Marina 1, constructed along the creek to offer views of the mangroves and by year’s end, provide additional activities such as seaplane tours, watersports, abra rides, land-based adventure sports, an outdoor fitness club and waterfront cafes and restaurants.
