Aspiring golfers can learn to play the game without even paying a single dirham during Abu Dhabi City Golf Club’s (ADCGC) free junior coaching programme next week.
Running from Sunday, 17 September to Saturday, 23 September between 17:00 to 18:00, it’s a chance for kids to learn the basics of the game or even enhance their skills.
It will be held for the sixth year running and it’s part of ADCGC’s vision in promoting the sport at grassroots level. Previous editions have been hugely successful and this month’s is set to be no different.
“At Abu Dhabi City Golf Academy we always look for new ways to attract more golfers and especially junior golfers to be in the game,” said David Taylor, head teaching professional at ADCGC.
“For the last five years, we have been running it and it has attracted more than 250 new golfers each year. With every new junior there is the potential to introduce a whole new family to golf.
“We take great pride in the success of our Junior Academy and we were delighted to receive recognition from the Middle East Golf Awards (MEGA) for our ‘Free Junior Golf Week”.
Whether the child is new to the sport or have played the game, the programme will cover a variety of fun activities under the guidance of fully qualified professionals.
“The aim of the week is to showcase what we do at Abu Dhabi City Golf Academy and introduce as many new junior golfers to the game as possible,” added Taylor.
“During the one hour session, our team of four PGA golf professionals will introduce the basics movement, rules and etiquette of the game to all the new golfers in age specific groups.
“The juniors will enjoy three golf related activities that will offer a snapshot of what we offer in our Junior School. The first activity will be a fun warm up, encouraging team work. The second activity will introduce the juniors to putting on a specially designed crazy golf course. The final activity will get the juniors learning to swing and hit the ball long, high and straight.”
With a few days to go and the opportunity to play on the lush greens, Taylor believes there’s plenty of positives for parents to sign their children up.
“Very simply, this is a great opportunity for all juniors to try golf at the biggest and best junior golf academy in Abu Dhabi and all for completely free,” he said.
“We strive to provide an accessible, welcoming and fun-learning environment for juniors of all ages and their families and friends. We can’t wait to get started and see a week of smiles and happy golfers.”

Yasalam’s Get Driver Fit programme is back and better than ever to offer participants a fun way to get fit across the capital.
The annual fitness programme returns for its fifth year on Sunday, September 17 for seven weeks of free exercise classes and community health events.
A variety of class options will include HIIT training, yoga, boxing and more, to be held on Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, Umm al Emarat Park, Khalifa City and Yas Marina Circuit, as well as new locations such as Yas Beach, Gateway Park and Yas Links.
The class schedule also features popular activities like ladies-only Zumba and body toning, along with bi-weekly seminars for coaching to help participants reach their fitness goals.
New to this year is the online registration system, providing a convenient alternative to arriving early at the launch event to sign up.
After going through the fitness assessment, participants will have the chance to get a 3D body scan to calculate their health metrics and track their progress throughout the programme.
John Lickrish, CEO of FLASH Entertainment, said: “Get Driver Fit continues to grow and strengthen year-on-year, which is testament to Abu Dhabi community’s commitment to getting fit and active.
This year, in addition to accessibility across the Capital, we wanted to bring more of the action to the heart of Yasalam on Yas Island.
“We are excited to witness the festival make waves with its innovative approach to community and leisure, as well as support the Abu Dhabi Government’s health and education agenda to improve physical literacy alongside our partner, Daman.”
Becoming your fittest self isn’t the only incentive to take part. Last year, two winners with the best overall score earned a trip to Goa, India.
This year, the top male and female participants with the best class attendance, overall physical transformation and performance time at the finale will also win an getaway grand prize.
The winners will be announced at the GDF Fitness Festival at the du Forum on November 10, which will have fitness classes, demonstrations, fitness talks, street sports, competitions and a family fun zone.
