It’s that time of the year when the weather begins to relent and allows those in the UAE to look for new outdoor pursuits.
And for golf lovers in Dubai, The Els Club is the perfect location to have a ball.
The club, nestled right in the heart of Dubai Sports City, is the ideal location to hone your golfing skills, irrespective of your level, while relaxing with friends and family.
The Els Club brings together characteristics of the international courses on which the legendary Ernie Els made his name; bunkers from Royal Melbourne, the rolling fairways of Muirfield, and greens from Pinehurst.
Each hole has four differing tee lengths, allowing handicap and scratch golfers alike to challenge their skill and strategy against the best the world of golf has to offer. As a destination, The Els Club has a lot to offer.
Run by golf management company Troon, it boasts some of the best practice facilities in the region with a fully lit driving range, open until 21:30, along with a world-class short game area.
Furthermore, The Els Club is home to the only Butch Harmon School of Golf outside of the United States.
Harmon is widely regarded as one of the finest golf coaches in the world, and the school is built on his proven teaching methods and unique philosophy.
Supported with state-of-the-art equipment and elite level instructors, the school offers a variety of options for golfers on all levels. Apart from golfing facilities, there are a variety of award-winning food and beverage offerings.
Named after Ernie Els’ record-breaking score at the 2003 Mercedes Championship, the 261 spike bar is a perfect place to relax and unwind after a round of golf, catch some sport or watch Dubai’s spectacular sunsets over the signature course.
Speaking about the venue, The Els Club general manager Karl Whitehead said: “Here at The Els Club we pride ourselves on delivering quality across the board. Whether that be the presentation and playability of our course, or with the overall daily experience – our young and dynamic team have huge passion to deliver quality each and every day.
‘’Membership is a big thing for us and is the most advantageous way to enjoy our facility 365 days a year. We are unique in that we are the only golf club in Dubai whereby you make a financial return on your membership via our unique transferable initiation fee model.
“We have a variety of options: family, single, full week, midweek and corporate. In addition to this, we offer wide ranging member only benefits like premium cash back tier on all spend, members only lounge, complimentary meeting room usage for business or pleasure, members only section on our range, enrolment into Troon programmes, exclusive extended tee time booking windows, and a wide variety of access to our multiple club partners.
“On top of all this, there has been no better time to join. For a limited time and with limited capacity, we have a very special membership offer to take advantage of.”
While enjoying the facilities at The Els Club, don’t forget to make the most of their loyalty programmes – the premier golf loyalty programme Troon Rewards along with Dubai Sports City’s own SCORE cash back loyalty scheme.
Whitehead added: “Our award winning restaurants are open to the community as well as our membership and again, we pride ourselves on being the best – serving the best quality food, providing the best service and generally being a great place to enjoy time with family and friends.”

Yas Marina Circuit has announced the return of the TRD 86 Cup, which will take place from October 2017 to March 2018, at the home of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Supported once again by Toyota Racing Development (TRD) the series, which is back for its fourth successive season, will feature grassroots and professional racing action and see the return of experienced drivers such as Karim Al Azhari, Gregory Pain and Shihab Al Faheem but will also feature a bigger field of new drivers, who are yet to be announced.
Also new this year is the addition of the ‘Race Weekend Hire Packages’, which start at AED12,400 per round and offers already licenced drivers by Yas Marina Circuit to participate on a more flexible basis.
The sustainable local motor sport initiative, that has grown year-on-year, was first introduced by Yas Marina Circuit in 2014 to enable amateur racers to drive in a professional, competitive environment and allows drivers to gain experience of racing on a level playing field and the most affordable one-make motor racing series in the Middle East.
Speaking about the return of TRD 86 Cup, Saud Al Qaydi, Yas Motor Racing Club Project Manager, said: “Since the TRD 86 Cup started back in 2014 we have seen phenomenal growth in the local motorsport scene combined with very strong demand for local motorsport competition here in the UAE.
“Since its inception the TRD 86 Cup and Yas Racing Series itself has gone from strength to strength and we are now seeing even more drivers than ever register for the 2017-18 events.
“Whether its entry-level races for amateurs or international series for seasoned professionals, Yas Marina Circuit’s season of motorsport will offer fans a comprehensive range of racing. This year promises to be a spectacular season of racing.”
The season opener will run from Friday 27th to Saturday 28th October with the return of the popular Yas Racing Series, held under the umbrella of Yas Motor Racing Club.
This season will again feature a mix of professional and amateur drivers as they look to compete head to head for a place on the podium across two separate categories – Gold and Silver – in the first of six competitive rounds that will see the TRD 86 Cup winner crowned in March next year.

Aspiring golfers can learn to play the game without even paying a single dirham during Abu Dhabi City Golf Club’s (ADCGC) free junior coaching programme next week.
Running from Sunday, 17 September to Saturday, 23 September between 17:00 to 18:00, it’s a chance for kids to learn the basics of the game or even enhance their skills.
It will be held for the sixth year running and it’s part of ADCGC’s vision in promoting the sport at grassroots level. Previous editions have been hugely successful and this month’s is set to be no different.
“At Abu Dhabi City Golf Academy we always look for new ways to attract more golfers and especially junior golfers to be in the game,” said David Taylor, head teaching professional at ADCGC.
“For the last five years, we have been running it and it has attracted more than 250 new golfers each year. With every new junior there is the potential to introduce a whole new family to golf.
“We take great pride in the success of our Junior Academy and we were delighted to receive recognition from the Middle East Golf Awards (MEGA) for our ‘Free Junior Golf Week”.
Whether the child is new to the sport or have played the game, the programme will cover a variety of fun activities under the guidance of fully qualified professionals.
“The aim of the week is to showcase what we do at Abu Dhabi City Golf Academy and introduce as many new junior golfers to the game as possible,” added Taylor.
“During the one hour session, our team of four PGA golf professionals will introduce the basics movement, rules and etiquette of the game to all the new golfers in age specific groups.
“The juniors will enjoy three golf related activities that will offer a snapshot of what we offer in our Junior School. The first activity will be a fun warm up, encouraging team work. The second activity will introduce the juniors to putting on a specially designed crazy golf course. The final activity will get the juniors learning to swing and hit the ball long, high and straight.”
With a few days to go and the opportunity to play on the lush greens, Taylor believes there’s plenty of positives for parents to sign their children up.
“Very simply, this is a great opportunity for all juniors to try golf at the biggest and best junior golf academy in Abu Dhabi and all for completely free,” he said.
“We strive to provide an accessible, welcoming and fun-learning environment for juniors of all ages and their families and friends. We can’t wait to get started and see a week of smiles and happy golfers.”
