Here’s your chance to race against each other in freezing conditions for a charitable cause as the annual Ice Warrior Challenge returns this weekend. It might not sound like the most relaxing thing to do but trust us, you don’t want to miss it.

Now running in its eighth consecutive year, the entry numbers for the October 6 event have already been impressive but you can still join and see why it’s highly rated with last-minute registration closing at midnight on Wednesday.

Held at Ski Dubai – the first indoor ski resort in the Middle East – there won’t be any skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing or even rolling down in the Giant Ball run, which admittedly are some of their popular attractions.

Instead, participants will be asked to run, climb and roll inside the -4 degree climate.

Specially for the day, the venue will be transformed into the ultimate obstacle course, featuring a cargo net crawl, zorb ball maze, monkey bar swings, tyre course and black run climb, amongst other action-packed ice-capades.

It will be a gruelling challenge that will test your stamina and determination but also a perfect opportunity for those who want to try out something new.

And there’s even more reason to sign up considering a portion of proceeds raised will be donated to Noor Dubai to help raise awareness for the visually impaired.

The Ice Warrior Challenge is open to all abilities for those aged 16 and above with registration costing Dh250 per person. Included in the fee is a certificate, a goody bag and refreshments.

And those who impress stand to win some fantastic prizes from New Balance, the event’s apparel sponsor. On top of that, the winning male and female warrior will also receive 125,000 Emirates Skywards Miles and many other exciting prizes from key sponsors.

Your participation will make a huge difference to somebody’s life.

Over the past seven years, the Ice Warrior Challenge has raised a total of Dh350,000 to date and that number will surely increase come the end of this weekend.

Registration can be done by visiting www.premieronline.com.

So hurry up and join this exciting event while supporting a good cause.

It’s time to lace up your trainers and hit the track for the opening race of Super Sports Run Series later this month.

The 3km is aimed for junior runners with categories including under 9 years, 9 to 12 years, 13 to 15 years, 16 years and over.

There’s even more reason to sign up considering the Super Sports Run Series allows all athletes finishing the race a chance of winning an all-expenses paid trip to Thanyapura in Phuket, Thailand.

Previous editions of the community event, sanctioned by Dubai Sports Council, have proven to be a massive hit and Warren van der Merwe, race director of Super Sports Events, organisers of the run, is confident there will be a big turn-out this month.

“The Track at Meydan will once again offer some exciting races throughout the series,” he said.

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay might be a few months away but you and your colleagues can start your preparations now with registrations open.

More than 1,000 runners from different organisations are expected to descend on the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC) for the third edition on February 7.

Companies will battle it out for the number one spot, with employees making their way around the unique one-mile (1.6km) route by the iconic DIFC gate building.

Each team will be comprised of 10 runners, with each participant running one lap of the course before passing the baton to the next member. The side with the fastest cumulative time for 10 one-mile laps will be crowned champions.

While all teams will be striving for victory, team-bonding and building new contacts are just some of the core tenets of the event.

Since its inception in London in 2007, the event has gone from strength to strength with San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Tokyo among the cities to have hosted a race.

So far, 27 races have been held across the globe with runners completing 25,250 miles – the equivalent of circumnavigating the earth.

Following on from the success of last year’s edition, Alya Al Zarouni, senior vice president of operations at DIFC Authority, is confident this year’s will be no different.

“This is the third time we are the venue partner for the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay and each year the event gets bigger and better, with fiercer competition among participating companies,” he said.

“This is a great opportunity for us to showcase DIFC as more than a top 10 global financial centre – the centre is widely recognised as a leading destination for business and lifestyle.

“We are delighted to be involved in this international event once more and we look forward to seeing Dubai’s professionals on the course.”

Once the relay is finished, the fun continues as participants, including friends and family, can enjoy the after-event party with live music, food, beverages and entertainment.
