Females can end their working week by getting fit with ice skating at Ladies Day at Zayed Sports City.
Held every Thursday at their Ice Rink, it has already been a big success but 2018 promises to be even bigger considering there are more sessions than ever before.
With its first session starting at 08:30, the one-hour classes are the ultimate way of getting fit and socialising with your friends and family. They are held at 08:30, 09:45, 11:00, 12:15, 13:30, 14:45, 16:00 and for the first time at 17:30 due to popular demand.
“Ladies Day has been a long standing offering at Zayed Sports City Ice Rink and we recognised that we needed to add in more sessions that allow women and girls to feel comfortable exercising,” said Barry Bremner, general manager of Zayed Sports City.
“With ice sports gaining in popularity with females in the region, thanks to inspirational skaters like Zahra Lari, we were compelled to examine the schedule and find more time for them to participate. It’s important for us to help the entire population get fit and healthy, and we will take the appropriate action to ensure this happens.”
He added: “The extended hours of our Ladies Day programme has been very well received.
“There have been numerous requests for us to remain open after school or work, so we knew there was a demand for this. They spoke, we listened and where sessions used to end at 16:00, ladies can now skate with us until 18:30.”
Football, rugby and tennis are just some of the other sports played at Zayed Sports City. It’s part of their mission in promoting a healthy lifestyle for UAE residents and the Ladies Day programme is hugely significant.
“Being healthy and active is incredibly important and everyone deserves to be comfortable and confident when they exercise,” added Bremner.
“Our Ladies Only sessions at the ice rink are not only private, but they are some of the most social and fun sessions we have each week. It makes exercising much less of a chore and soon it becomes a habit. Plus, we have skates and safety equipment, so there is no up-front cost except for the session, which is only Dh40.
“If you’ve never skated before, our ice marshals are more than willing to give tips and help you find your initial footing. We also have certified female coaches, so anyone who needs a little extra support can book a lesson until they feel confident in their skills.”
