If you’re in Dubai and looking for the best in motor sports action there is no need to trek all the way to Abu Dhabi.

The Dubai Autodrome, located conveniently at the buzzing mini metropolis that is Motor City, has a busy programme over the next month including FIA F4UAE Championship (March 2-3), Emirates Schools Karting Championship (March 11-12) and the National Race Days Power Weekend (March 30-31). (See more events below.)

And the perfect place to catch all the Autodrome action is from the brand new Park Inn by Radisson Dubai Motor City.

With stunning views of the Race Track, and the Dubai Marina skyline as a backdrop, the Park Inn has been impressively designed with a motor racing theme.

The minute you enter the tastefully decorated modern foyer a panorama of the race track opens up in front of you through the huge floor to ceiling windows.

Then look up – and above you suspended from the ceiling – a bright red antique Ferrari, which took hundreds of hour to assemble and fix in place.

With the curtains open revealing the wall to wall windows it’s almost like you are sitting in the grandstand of the race track – the final bend before the finish line right in front of you.

There’s no need to even leave your room, though you definitely will want to check out the buoyant and up tempo Live Inn on the first floor which features an all-day dining restaurant with an array of mouth-watering dishes, designed by the innovative executive chef at the Park Inn, Khaldoun Nasr.

Savor everything from South-East Asian to Middle Eastern food, for example ginger soy salmon or pearl barley tabbouleh, while meat enthusiasts will be keen to try the juicy rack of lamb with green pea and mint mash.

Those with a sweet tooth will enjoy the dessert specialty, berry cheesecake with chocolate icing.

The food is excellent, stylishly presented and the service first class.

If you’re looking for a place to catch the big Six Nations action down Al Satwa-Jumeirah way this weekend there isn’t any better atmosphere than The Docks at the Ramada Jumeirah.

The cosy Scott-themed pub has been the home to many Dubai sporting fans over the last six years and with recent improvements and updated menus it is bringing in a whole new clientele.

This Saturday it’s the perfect place to catch the huge Ireland-Wales match from Dublin at 18:15 followed by the Calcutta Cup clash between Scotland and England live from Edinburgh at 20:45.

When you can’t be at a huge sporting event, like the Six Nations, you want to watch it somewhere which makes it feel like you are actually there.

The Docks is such a place.

There’s six big screens so you won’t miss any of the action and the sound is turned up to create an atmosphere like you are actually at Lansdowne Road or Murrayfield.

At The Docks a lot of thought has gone into making the experience of watching big sporting events as exciting as possible.

Seating is comfortable, with everywhere in the establishment having an excellent view of the large screens, and easy access to the serving area.

There’s also a well-lit dart board if you’re feeling a bit of a Phil Taylor “Power” rush.

The food – crucial to any sport watching experience – is also first class.

Executive Sous Chef Gaurang Dilip Vikekar joined the Ramada team nine months ago and has made some shrewd tweaks to the menu at The Docks and the adjoining Cuisines and Asian-fusion Ginger restaurants.

The Murg Makhani, or Butter Chicken as Scots fans might know it, is among the best in town and is a huge favourite at The Docks around kick-off as is the British style Fish and Chips, with perfectly cut steak-fries.

But the smart move is to arrive a little earlier and check out Ginger, which Vikekar has got humming recently with a new Head Chef from Thailand, Prajaak, before taking up your spot in The Docks.

Watching sport can sometimes be a little bit tough on the waist line but at Ginger there are plenty of healthy options from Sushi, such as the tasty Spider Roll (soft shell crab, avocado, cucumber, tobiko), to Aromatic Seabass, (crispy seabass fillet with spicy sweet chili sauce and sweet basil leaves).

There is also the outstanding Asian styled lamb-shanks, taking an old English favourite and spicing it up with a Thai-twist that is both healthy and delicious.

There’s also plenty of great deals at The Docks such as two-for-one Happy Hours from 17:00 to 19:00 every day.

Ginger also has a great value Friday brunch from 12:00 to 15:00 just AED119 with soft drinks, AED229 with all beverages available.

This is followed by Dynasty, Asian-Fusion night at Cuisines.

On Thursday at Cuisines you can try the Butcher’s Block with fresh cuts of Brazilian beef and Australian and New Zealand lamb available for you to choose and then have perfectly cooked at the live grill station – for just AED99.

And this isn’t just a great spot for rugby fans, The Docks is open from 15:00 to 03:00 every day so it’s also a great spot to catch the big Champions League nights coming up over the next weeks and month.

On Tuesday night there is an evening brunch at Cuisines perfect for a delicious and great value pre-match meal, before slipping next door to catch all the Champions League action.

Peter Stringer (l) in action.

What better way to watch the Six Nations this weekend than by taking in the action with Irish rugby union star Peter Stringer at McGettigan’s JLT.

The 40-year-old scrum-half will be in attendance for the Ireland v Wales contest on Saturday, February 24 at The Baggot at McGettigan’s JLT.

Along with taking part in a Q&A before the game, Stringer will also provide his expert commentary and analysis at half-time.

Entry is free and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, with doors opening from 15:00, the Q&A commencing at 16:00 and the match kicking off at 18:15.

The talented athlete has played 15 seasons with Munster Rugby and represented Ireland and the Barbarians internationally.

He also appeared in four Heineken Cup Finals, winning two – in 2006 and 2008 – and has won three Celtic League titles and a Celtic Cup during his career with Munster.

The atmosphere at McGettigan’s JLT is expected to be rocking as Wales and Ireland clash in a tasty fixture.

Warren Gatland’s men will aim to sink Ireland’s Grand Slam hopes at Aviva Stadium, with Ireland owning two wins, three losses and a draw in the Kiwi’s tenure.

There should be no shortage of Ireland fans at McGettigan’s, which has turned into one of the most popular establishments in all of Dubai, whether for nightlife or to watch live sport.

Guests to restaurant and pub can enjoy happy hour beverages starting from noon to 20:00, or take advantage of the SOS Saturday Breakfast Special. The deal gives guests three house beverages and a breakfast dish for Dh109.

Options include a veggie breakfast, smoked salmon muffin, French toast, salted caramel and banana pancakes and a traditional Irish fry up.

Those who prefer a lighter start to the day, The Take It Easy Breakfast Combo offers guests a breakfast dish, a fresh juice and a hot drink for Dh89.

Head to McGettigan’s this weekend to get your fill of rugby, on and off the pitch, and rub shoulders with one of the sport’s premier names.
