  • If you’re looking for something that is new, fast-paced and exciting, then you may want to consider signing up for the Tie Break Tens at Zayed Sports City.

On Thursday (March 15), their first tennis format of the programme will be held where games will go straight to a tie-break scenario. In order to come out on top, players must reach 10 points to win by a clear margin.

Players of all abilities are being encouraged to join and Sigi Meeuws, Director of ZSC Academy, who are running the event, believes there are many positives on why people should join.

“March 15 will be the first Tie Break Tens event that ZSC Academy holds and we are very excited for it to be successful,” he said. “The format is becoming popular in tennis circles, including with the pros, and tournaments are cropping up around the world. We really want to bring this new, fast-paced and exciting tennis format to the capital. It works for adults of all abilities and it is just one tool in building a bigger and stronger tennis community for everyone to benefit from.

“With a great turnout, we’ll be dividing players by level into groups for a round-robin format. The matches themselves go quickly, so everyone will get to face several opponents in their group. We’re not knocking out people in a “one and done” format or putting any emphasis on winning – this evening is about enjoying a Thursday evening through sport and finding other people to play tennis with in the future.”

Once the games are completed, there will also be an opportunity to socialise with the other players at the Sportsmans’ Arms and take advantage of a special offer of food and drink for either Dh75 or Dh90.

“Anyone with some level of tennis experience is welcome to join, and we will match opponents based on their level to ensure everyone is having a good time on the court,” added Meeuws. “After the matches, everyone with a love for tennis is welcome to join us at The Sportsmans’ Arms where we will be getting to know each other better. I expect a few follow up matches will be scheduled between new friends by the time the evening is over.

“We’re really excited because Tie Break Tens ticks all the boxes. It’s quicker than a traditional match, so it can fit into busy schedules with more ease, and at this social night tennis-minded people get to meet and do something they enjoy. It encourages an active lifestyle through the sport itself and also through the connections that are built.”

Registration closes on Tuesday with entry costing Dh105.
