Are you new to triathlon and looking to take part in a race?
The Ashurst Tri Fest could be just what you’re looking for.
You’ve still got until Sunday March 24 to sign up for the popular event, which takes place on Friday March 30, at the picturesque Jebel Ali Waterfront.
Organised by Race Me Events, Tri Fest is a celebration of the sport and is designed to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get involved – with many participants giving triathlon a go for the first time.
Indeed, it is a triathlon heavily focused on inclusion and community spirit.
For adults, there are three different distances you can choose from with the Supersprint, Sprint and Olympic races on offer whether you’re swimming, cycling or running as an individual or part of a team.
For children in the age category 4-14, there are two distances on offer and parents have the chance to stay with their children if they wish to help them around the course.
One of those taking part is Rio Watson, a teenager with a very rare chromosome disorder who is part of Team Angel Wolf. Formed by Nick Watson, the team raise awareness of people with special needs, particularly children, and how they can be included in fitness activities.
Paul Venn, one of the owners of the event, said: “Tri Fest is community-based event that appeals to experienced triathletes looking for a personal best or first-timers just looking to finish. Crystal clear water, closed roads and a new spectator-friendly course create a wonderful atmosphere. We expect more than 1,000 people will race.
“We are proud supporters of TeamAngelWolf as we share their message of inclusion and integrating children with special needs into society through sport. Our kids races give children of all ages and abilities to race with and be inspired by Rio Watson who will be racing with his dad, Nick, and sister, Tia.”
On race day itself, transition opens from 5am and racing begins at 6.30am, with briefings from officials before that.
Race numbers for all participants must be clearly visible on their back during the bike base and front during the run, with people advised by Race Me Events to wear an elastic belt to display their number. During the swim, colour-coded swimming caps must be worn and are also included in the race track.
After you cross the finish and pick up your medal, enjoy the Race Village which will have entertainment and food tracks for some much-needed refreshments.
